Adventure Time
« on: July 25, 2012, 05:20:00 PM »

I know we have some Adventure Time fans here, so I thought I'd start a thread.

I absolutely love this show. New episodes air on Cartoon Network Mondays. The show is replayed all throughout the week, though. Started watching it earlier this year and am currently making my way through it. You can probably pick it up at anytime but I wanted to go in chronological order, and that has definitely benefited in certain parts. It'll probably get labeled as one but it's definitely not just a kids show, and that you can figure that out by watching any episode.

Some truly great and hilarious episodes. Some of my favorites have to be "Ocean of Fear", "Memory of a Memory", "What Was Missing" and the brilliant "Adventure time with Fionna and Cake", where all of the characters in the show are gender-swapped. I'm also a big Lumpy Space Princess fan. "MY BEANS!"

Cartoons seem to be looked down upon around here, but, at the risk of being called gross, I'm not ashamed to say I love Adventure Time (or any good cartoon, really).

Looked down upon only by those who are dead inside.

In the meantime, whenever I enter a room anywhere, I always try to do it like this:

It's definitely my jam now, and I'm certainly not alone considering there were like a million Finns at Comic Con this year (what, no Peppermint Butlers?).  It's not a big surprise to me that the a lot of Indy Comic creators work on the show, since the humour seems to be a descendant of some of the indy humour comics that made an impact into the mid-to-late 80's (particularly the Tick and Sam & Max.  Come to think of it, some of the tirades characters occasionally go on wouldn't be out of place in the Tick's mouth).

It's also very idiosyncratic.  It also reminds me of Scott Pilgrim in the sense that the creator seemed to be able to take everything they loved from their childhood onward and use it to create a cohesive world made out of their passions but doesn't feel simply self-indulgent or too swept up in nostalgia to create strong characters (I love the evolution of the Ice King from a pathetic stock villain to a villain who is desperately lonely for any form of friendship).

My favourite episodes: Rainy Day Daydream, Power Animal, The Pods, Still, Adventure Time with Fionna and Cake, Hug Wolf and Card Wars.

In the meantime, whenever I enter a room anywhere, I always try to do it like this:

Oh, great, now you got Bill going:

Though it makes sense that 70's TV is one of the few things the Ice King still remembers of his old life.

This is the shirt over at Teefury today:

Also, for those that don't watch the show, John DiMaggio who voices Bender (Futurama) also voices Jake (the dog) in Adventure Time.

Dude, just saw the last episode of Adventure Time!  HOLY FUCK!  There aren't enough exclamation points in the WORLD for that ending.  I don't even care if it's a cop-out, that was some ballsy stuff.  I wonder if this is going to tie in with the snail.

Otherwise a really cool PB-centric episode.  It's nice that we are seeing PB be a bad-ass in this episode, as well as a character who hasn't been seen since season one.

I saw the first two episodes.  I... didn't get it.  Is it one of those shows that just "clicks" or does it get better later, because I'm kinda baffled by its popularity.
