How Bad Is "Elementary"?
« on: October 01, 2012, 03:48:54 AM »
CBS's second-rate knockoff of the brilliant BBC show "Sherlock" shows off its second-rate also-ranness by featuring a Nokia Windows Phone in its pilot episode instead of an iPhone.

It just doesn't get any more poetically fitting than that, folks.

i'm pretty sure sherlock's phone (the one with the lens attached to it) is an iphone. the one in the foreground is the phone of a murder victim. the show itself wasn't bad. it wasn't as amazing as the beeb's version, but not horrible by any means.

That shitty "Sherlock" show is "amazing"?  I've seen a few episodes, and while it's not bad, it's really no different from your average police procedural.  At least when USA did this, they took the time to create a new character named "Adrian Monk".

I thought that might be the case; I think a fairly large part of the appeal of Sherlock is probably in how it translates the tropes and stories from the originals into a modern setting.

So ,for example, how are they going to do A Scandal in Bohemia given that Central European Monarchy doesn't exist any more and it's not exactly a path to universal acclaim to be an opera singer these days. :)
