And with just one CGI test, the proposed Rock Lords movie is put on hold.

This is a professional fire-breather who set up 720 high-speed cameras to capture a single moment from seven hundred & twenty unique angles.

It's interesting how unspectacular that is. 10 years ago it would have been amazing, but that stuff is done so much in films now (though usually not practically) that it just falls flat.

The speed of the move doesn't help either. Perhaps the original is slower, but if you had more time to appreciate a slowly moving fireball it'd be cooler. It would also benefit from some parallax, some object passing in front of the camera(s) as they "move" around the fireball.

That's pretty cool.

Yeah, that's how the first 'bullet time' was done for the original Matrix (a bunch of still cameras wrapped around the action; but for the film with background filled in by computer).  I agree on the slo-mo changes happening in the fireball (rather than the 720 pictures of the same instant) making a difference in the dynamism of the GIF, but in this case I think the single most effective change would have been simply if it were done at night.  The fire is too washed out by the well-lit background to even see it really clearly.  It doesn't help that the focal point is the guy's mouth, not the fireball (but I suppose it was 'advertising' for him, so he wanted to be sure his face was in it clearly).

Agreed, at night and tilted up slightly would have been better.  But the subject isn't the fire breather, it's a gopro commercial I believe.

I can't find the the video of that particular shot, it probably hasn't been released yet, but I did find this one of pretty much the same thing, and you can see they are also using go pros.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/3z_nYJoH6js?hl=en_US&amp;amp;version=3&amp;amp;rel=0" target="_blank" class="new_win">http://www.youtube.com/v/3z_nYJoH6js?hl=en_US&amp;amp;version=3&amp;amp;rel=0</a>

I was right, the original is a lot slower, and looks much more awesome.  If you concentrate on the human you can see a bunch of artifacting as the blending program does its best to blend one video with the next, but it's forgivable because your focus is on the fireball where the blending is much less noticeable due to fire's chaotic nature.
