Also, I think serpents can be adorable but YMMV.

It's people like you who gave us original sin.

EDIT:  But seriously, snakes are my least favorite animal. It's not a phobia, if I see one in person I don't freak out. But I very much don't like the thought of them and they often show up in my nightmares. I think it's because I can't read snakes. I can't tell how they will move or what they will do. You can't easily scare a snake.  And if I'm without a weapon, a poisonous snake wins in a fight. What am I going to do?  Punch it?  Rip it's head off?  Nope!  Cause it can still bite me without a body.

I feel the same way about arachnids.

And now for something completely different:

Ditto, I think they're precious. My snake yawns like that sometimes, and I always squee over it.

And Variety, you certainly can "read" snakes. It's all in the body movements (particularly the head), even if their facial features are frozen. Most of the time they don't even move all that quick (gotta conserve energy), so it's just a matter of seeing where they're slinking off to (odds are it's somewhere dark and away from any people near them).

Oh yes, I'm aware that there are people who can read snakes. I'm just not one of them.

I actually don't mind spiders like I used to. I think my least favorite class of animals is insects, and spiders EAT insects.  So they have that going for them.

I completely agree. I saw a spider in a high corner of my hallway. He/she had a carcass of one of those gangly mosquito things in the web. I'm like "Good on you, spider. Thanks!" and went about my business. About 3 weeks later, I see it had set up shop in my room near my bed.

Now, while some may argue that to be an optimum spot for pest control, I cannot risk relocation to my face while I sleep sometime in the future. So unfortunately, at that point, all house privileges were revoked and the spider was peacefully relocated outside. Free to pursue a life of religious fulfillment.
