Are you saying I could either include "Pokemon" or individual species?

Yep.

Just checking: By that same logic, a vote for "Elf" and a vote for "Wood Elf" would be two seperate entries, right? Also, would I be hypothetically specifying, say, "Santa's Elves," or would that also fall under the whole "Elf" umbrella?

You can be as general or specific as you want to, I suppose, though if you choose a specific one no one else has, I might throw it in with a more general list.  I think unless you feel incredibly passionate about that one kind of thing, then it's just more sensible to keep it general.  But if you have both on you're list, I'll see them as separate entities.  Is that clear or do I need to explain a bit more?

You've been butchering "you're" and "your". I feel I need to tell you, as a friend.

I have a number that fed into the way Tolkien depicted his Elves but they are distinct races (well, one is a later evolution in folk consciousness of one of the others, maybe a devolution but they're still separate in character and  significance).

But Santa's/Keebler elves shouldn't be lumped in with the Shining Folk of Fantasy fiction/Semi to actual divine creatures of myth, if you're going to combine them you still need to do two different groups.

Well, I'll be under the assumption that people mean the fantastical elves of myth and Tolkien and similar ilk, so if you intend specifically to focus on the helper elves, you can label them as such.

I find a lot of them blend together.  The fair folk, the elves, the brownies.  They are often presented so inconsistently that they bleed into each other a lot.  Not that it is necessarily a bad thing, but it makes it hard for me to prefer one embodiment of the forest and its natural elements over the other.  They often just seem to be another shade of the same colour and depending on who presents them, the same thing with a different name.

But I can understand if in a specific work or story they do make enough of an impression that you want the distinction to be made VERY clear.  Though I have a favourite mythological creature that gets presented in a number of different ways, and I kind of like all of them.

Nope, when you get my list you'll see what I mean, I'm not taking any of them from any specific work or story, in the sense of works of fiction.

I'm saying Santa's elves are absolutely like hobgoblins or brownies or pixies, so if you want to lump them in with them that's fine.

(and yes Hobgoblins aren't what people often think they are, Tolkien regretted his error there, but that didn't seem to stop the proliferation of it).

But just because some people are interested in a different thing doesn't mean that your fave monsters can't shine through.  And I'm sure your most recent guest might have given you some ideas.
