Tonight on SyFy
« on: May 19, 2012, 04:17:19 PM »
SyFy's Saturday movie this week?

"When a fleet of mysterious ships wage war against the Earth, only the crew of the USS Iowa, the last American battleship, can prevent global armageddon. Cast includes Mario Van Peebles and Carl Weathers."

Hmmm. That plot sounds familiar.

Oh, and of course it's from The Asylum.

Well, that was decidedly less stupid than it could have been. An actual somewhat legitimate reason for the Iowa to be useful (although no frigging idea why it was in South Korea in the beginning) and it looks like The Asylum got to film on some sort of naval vessel  for once. In past films their "naval vessels" have been the boiler rooms of various industrial buildings with a fake control console in the foreground. Much less stupid than the usual Asylum/SyFy stuff.

Next week- another shark film.

Dear god, that may the stupidest plot for a movie EVER.

"Look out everyone, a dead fish that cannot breath is flopping at you".

I shudder to think what ideas were turned down before they approved this one?  Puppies chomping on toes?

But yeah, it will be watched.

You know, I don't expect much from an Asylum film but....

Guys? In a hurricane it kinda, you know, rains. I know you guys operate on the cheap but during the latter half of the film you could have, you know, used the frigging rain machine again.  Because this was a sharknado that took place on a partly cloudy day.

Edit: Oh dear lord, that ending. I was laughing so hard at it that I couldn't breathe. And not because I was supposed to be laughing either. I haven't seen stupidity on that level for a long, long time.

And the special effects looks like they were drafts made in SECONDS that they forgot to edit.

Sharks would fall in water, and the water around them does not move, the sharks almost are see through, UGH.

From Variety:

Syfy Greenlights ‘Sharknado 2,’ Sets Twitter Contest for Film Subtitle

This one's set in New York.

And by New York we mean "a part of Los Angeles that we'll say in New York because it's the Asylum and we won't shoot anywhere that isn't within a half hour of our studio."

Well the sequel should obviously be:

Sharknados

Does the whole Alien/Aliens thing, plus you get an awesome bilingual pun.

Actually, my favorite so far is:

Sharknado 2: This Time They Have Chainsaws

Back to working on my Pandapocalypse screenplay.
