Don't Be Afraid of the Dark 2010 remake

This film is so laughably bad I find myself stunned at it's generally positive status on Rotten Tomatoes. It is as if Del Toro got sucked into a 'Ghoulies' vortex on the way to attempting this remake. The characters are all incredibly dense and act like utter morons every time something happens, and none of them (save Katie Holmes' character) do anything remotely intelligent. The groundskeeper reminded me of groundskeeper Willie from 'The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror'.. Not only does it have a pretty laughable premise, but the serious tone in which it is shot puts this on par with 'The Room' in my opinion.

Oh hi, lil demons!

My favorite head-slappingly bad moment was when the groundskeeper goes into the basement and gets attacked. He stumbles up the stairs with a preposterous number of gashes on his person, pulls some scissors out of his back and falls. The maid who is comforting the little girl sees him fall right in front of her face and says later that "He must have had an accident". You bet your ass he had an accident. He had cuts everywhere.. But no one gives the slightest hint of a shit how that happened. They just go on obliviously trying to get this place renovated. It makes so much sense!

Raefire:
del Toro produced - he didn't direct.

He should have pulled his name from the credits and run for the hills. He did take part in writing it though.

Darth Geek:
I still want to see this. I liked the original, despite the dangerous levels of 70s TV Movie smeared all over it.

Watch it and see what I mean. I found myself saying "REALLY??!?!!" every few minutes or so. The beginning sequence is totally promising. Its creepy, gory, and intriguing. Everything that follows felt like one big joke that nobody was in on. I like horror movies like The Loved Ones and House of the Devil, where the protagonists have real world common sense but still get caught in shitty situations.. This movie couldn't get any further from common sense if there was a wormhole involved.
