Mocktails - The Lost World: Jurassic Park
« on: May 05, 2012, 12:17:40 AM »
Hey all MST3K and Rifftrax fans, we're Chuck, Scott, and Joe, and we're wrapping up our first iRiff. We've dubbed ourselves Mocktails, and our movie is The Lost World: Jurassic Park. We have the script finished and will be recording in a couple weeks. Submission of our iRiff will follow shortly after. We just wanted to get the word out and preview the image. We'll also be posting a sample clip and a special bonus video on Youtube (as soon as we figure out the magic combination to avoid NBC copyright blocks).

I will check it out.

Just one word of advice, please put sync lines on your track.  I have been put off so many iRiffs because I can't reauther them or tell when they go out of sync because of the lack of sync lines.  If you can do it please include sync lines.

I think the lost word is one of the most nonsense sequeles ever made and I look forward to your riff.

Don't worry, sync lines are covered. We have 2 early lines and then 1 every 10 to 15 minutes. We tried hard to feel like a riff from the real crew. Same goes for the diverse joke types, so pop culture references, memes, cracking on bad lines and script, the whole deal.

Looks like we at QuipTracks took too long to redo our Lost World track. Oh well. I look forward to hearing your take.

Also, welcome to the boards!

Try using your video editor to put text and visual crap all over the footage.  I did that a long time ago and haven't had much of a problem since.  Heck, even DISNEY hasn't bothered me yet.

Also, put it on Dailymotion instead of Youtube. You'll have a much better time.

I agree.  I definitely would not want to buy an iriff or any riff for that matter without sync lines.  Even though it is a big pain in the ass, I always put sync lines in my riffs.  If it's all right, could you post here or PM me about which iriffs you purchased that had no sync lines, so I can avoid buying them?

I really dig the cover art for your Lost World riff.  Which program did you use?  I use Pixlr for my covers because I can't currently afford Photoshop.

As for The Lost World, I can't remember anything about it, except that it was really bad and had a little black girl beating seven-feet tall raptors with gymnastics (WTF?).  Also, the T-rex storms through the city, which was the only good scene.  I probably blocked the rest out.

I'm looking forward to your preview.

Riffman, I used GIMP. It's free and a lot like Photoshop. BTW, I've hated the gymnastics scene since I saw the movie in theaters as well. It was what pushed us over the edge to choose this movie.

Invader_Quirk, thanks for the advice. Dailymotion seems to have worked (bonus video if it completes publishing process). Sorry we hopped in before your redo, we made sure to check that The Lost World wasn't already in iRiffs before riffing it ourselves. Hope ours brings you a few chuckles though.

UPDATE: Dailymotion also blocked. Universal is apparently a bear to deal with, so we'll so how this all plays out. Trying a non-credited video at metacafe. Worst comes to worst, won't be able to post the bonus video, and we'll have to get "creative" with the sample video.

Not sure yet, just haven't looked into doing it or how we could check the timing for it. We will have sync lines in the audio track, so you can go that route. We'll look into it, but someone else may need to figure out the PAL measurements.

I should also mention we're using the Lost World DVD from the Jurassic Park 3-pack, so the sync file may not match the standalone dvd.

Have you tried filing a copyright counter-notification with Dailymotion, citing fair use?  If you state in your claim that you're using the material for purposes of parody, satire and/or criticism I believe they should let you have it back--I can't be certain, though.  Fair use claims don't always work, but it can't hurt to try.  Youtube prevented me from embedding my Rambo II sample on the Rifftrax site, but after I filed a counterclaim and cited fair use, I was allowed to embed it again.
