Jack the Giant Killer format question

I haven't bought it yet, but is it available in MP4 and DIVX or do you just get the ISO?

If you buy the VOD you get ISO, MPG, DIVX, and MP4 (high and low res)

The ISO is 7GB so you need a DVD-R DL, and has a menu with extra features.  The hires MP4 is 1.2GB.

Why is this one formatted to be 4:3 and letterboxed and not just widescreen?

Is the DVD formatted like that too?

Wow, I just played the hi-res MP4 and you're right, it's 4:3 letterboxed.

No, the DVD ISO is not like that, it's 16:9.

We're well aware. The mp4 encoding for iPad and iPod restricts the aspect ratio in that manner. I'll revisit the high res mp4, but the iPod/Portable version is going to be letterboxed.

I wondered if that was an iPod/iPad factor and it was......thanks

I can see doing it for the low-res version for backwards compatibility with older devices, but any device able to play the hi-res version would be 16:9 capable.

One would think so. However, it's less a restriction of the device and more a restriction of the mp4 profile required for those devices. Either way, I'll figure it out and have a new one up Monday.

I guess there are advantages to using free converter software.  I have no problem dumping 720x480 VOD or MPG files into WinFF and getting out 720x480 mp4s that play on my iPod touch and AppleTV.

Update: Sorted out, the new files with the correct aspect ratio will be up tomorrow. (Working with new software, just had to find the, "Do what I say!" button.)
