I guess it's probably fairly obvious by now that I come by a lot of this knowledge by personal experience.
I never actually made an edu-short myself, but knew people who did. Or tried to. In my day, film was an expensive and time consuming medium which I lacked the patience for. I knew a guy from Mills College who did work on the Buchla synthesizer for films like that, who was a friend of the first guy I went with when I was a freshman at Berkeley. I keep looking for his name in Rifftraxed shorts but have not seen it yet.
I think I remember - though my memory of that time might obviously be a titch skewed - that he soundtracked a kiddie film about insects. I keep looking for it in places like the Prelinger archives, but haven't found it yet...
