List of films to cheer me up
« on: April 23, 2012, 08:29:58 AM »
If you have read my posts  on the RRRRRAAAAARRRGGGGHHHHHH!!! thread then you will know I have been feeling a little depressed lately, well here is your chance to cheer me up.  If you know of a film be it a comedy, light hearted action adventure or something like that that makes you feel better by watching it it post it here.

I am looking for some movies I have not seen before that I can get out of the library or Netflix to help cheer me up while I am trying to find a job.

Thanks.
Fave Rifftrax:The Room Fave MST3K:Manos
Fave DW story of last year:TAP/TRF.  Fave classic series story:Inferno
Fave film of 2011:Tie The Muppets/Tintin
Fave iRiff group:One wall cinema
Fave movie:Citizen Kane.
Still stuck on dial up.
Ignore me or report me.

A Town Called Panic. Available now on Netflix Instant.

This one:

Quite possibly the most carefree and innocent movie ever made, and quite the uplifter.

You said you don't like gore, but is that just realistic gore? A lot of my favorite movies have over the top gore. Like the Evil Dead movies or Return of the Living Dead.

If the over the top gore is okay, I would recommend Dead Alive.

A fun 80s light horror movie you might enjoy is The Gate. Not gory, really. But a lot of puppety, and forced perspective fun.

EDIT: Also, truly goofy horror movie, there is Killer Klowns From Outer Space.

If you are in more of a kid friendly mood, I really enjoy Spaced Invaders. A goofy kids movie about really dumb invaders who are lost and mistake a rebroadcast of Orson Wells' 'War of the Worlds' radio show on Halloween.

Ironically, those two movies have the same actor playing an old farmer who finds the spaceship.

*Batteries Not Included

A very charming movie. You would swear it was directed by Spielberg (he did produce, though). Lots of great old actors get to really shine here.

Romantic comedies usually cheer me up.  When Harry Met Sally, The Sure Thing, Say Anything, Sullivan's Travels, Ball of Fire, His Girl Friday, Charade, Twentieth Century, The Apartment all fit the bill for me.

Old screwball comedies fit the bill as well. You may have already seen it, but if not, check out His Girl Friday. That's an old-school classic, and being in the public domain you can watch it in full pretty much anywhere (I think I first watched it on Google Video).

Old Billy Wilder movies usually do the job...Sabrina, Some Like it Hot, The Apartment.  Or It Happened One Night.

But in my deepest of funks I can always depend on MST/Rifftrax/CT

In my opinion, Hot Rod is the funniest movie ever made. I've never watched it while sad, but it seems promising.

Requiem For A Dream

Actually, on second thought, you might want to skip that one.

How about Winnie The Pooh?  A totally charming and funny film that is as gentle as a feather.  I am referring to the one from 2011.

Seriously though, stay away from my first suggestion.

I hope you read the part about skipping that one.  It was a joke.  See I suggested one of the most depressing films ever made to try to "cheer" you up.  Ha ha.

Anyway, you probably wouldn't like it anyway.  Even if you were in a better mood.

Hope things turn around for you soon and you start feeling better.  Always hard to be in a funk like that.
