Curses we learned.
« on: April 17, 2012, 10:20:11 PM »
I learned if you want to take a 60 minute mummy movie from 1958 and re-release it 20 years later just pad it out with loads of stock footage, change the monster to bigfoot, and bring a few of the original actors back for some really poorly done framing scenes.

Oh, and most of the people that fought the mummy/zombie/bigfoot thing will end up in a mental institution, even though at the end of the story they don't seem to be all that traumatized?

I learned that santa Claus and the ice cream bunny used their framing device better than this movie. They had the decency to close out the movie back with their framing, by going back to santa and letting the ice cream bunny make its grand appearance.  That helped tie thumbalina and the santa plots together, wait what am I saying lol. Anyway they could have closed the movie back in the classroom.

I learned that, even 20 years later, it still holds true: Rock Climbing is the single most boring thing you can put into your movie.

I learned that, when you go on field trips in the 70's, you have a 3 in 5 chance of winding up in a mental institute.
Oh bite me, it's fun!

I learned Bigfoots (Bigfeet?) get mange like any other dog.

I learned that the Cloverfield Monster had more screentime than this guy.

Mummy's now transfer their curses to Bigfoots. Lazy Petrified Egyptians.

I learned there's actually an 'Urban Folklore' class at my college. I shall use this movie to get an easy A. (As in I will threaten the teacher with said movie.)

I learned that when presented with an artifact millennia old, all good scientists will sign off on a teenager prying it up with a claw hammer.

So you're saying that's not how archeologists used to work?  And here I thought all that meticulous note taking, measuring, and pictures were things that they just started doing recently.  ::)

But seriously, what they were doing was artifact looting, not archeology.

I also learned from this and other movies that in the 50s when a monster shows up in town it's always up the the high school students to fight it, and the adults around would encourage them.

I learned that watching "television" makes your perception of reality skewed.

I was shocked to learn that Roger Corman was a really big influence to another director out there.

I learned that the moon in California is hella bright.

When you can say "look! pottery!" that it's a damn good day :)

I learned that hay bales are instrumental in killing a bigfoot/mummy. I did not, however, learn in what way.

I learned that humans have evolved from flinging their excrement to packaging it in a clumsy and incomplete framing device and then releasing it as a movie.
