You guys! so I was tweeting at one of my favorite artists and found out he has NEVER SEEN MST3K. He's too awesome, I can't let it stand like this. I want to get him a set; any recommendations? He's well known for drawing pulp heroes like The Shadow and Batman, if that helps.

I was thinking Clonus as well - that one's one of my Perfect Episodes. Great host segments and fantastic riffing. Thanks! If he actually gets in contact with me so I can send him some discs I'll let people know how it went. :D

Yeah, I would go with these. And they are all available on DVD, too.

Except Pumaman, which isn't.

Once again, let me disagree with the other suggestions. Our favorite episodes may not work for newbies. I certainly wouldn't inflict Manos on someone who's not familiar with the show. I'd suggest either one of the shorts sets (which may be out of print these days) or a film with a stronger narrative sense than most MST3k films as a film that is somewhat enjoyable to watch by itself often makes the best entry riff.  Cave Dwellers or Radar Secret Service would probably fit the bill best. Maybe Agent from HARM, Danger Death Ray! or Riding with Death too.

Don't forget, almost every short is on Youtube these days. Thanks Jim for not enforcing your copyrights!

Another fun one i like would be The Creeping Terror. The monster is giant rug with people under it. It is so damn goofy. That really gives an idea of what sort of odd movies they watch.

Direct him to a short or 3.  Design for dreaming.  Mr. B natural.  Then work your way to movies if he likes the shorts.  I've found out all too well not everyone likes or gets riffing.  Also I've been finding more and more classic full Eps on youtube that aren't on netflicks or elsewhere.
