Galaxy Quest is the best Trek film never made.  Meaning that script should have been adapted for either the Shatner/Nimoy crew or the Stewart/Frakes crew. Or perhaps tailored it to include a mix of actors from both Trek shows.

As it is, it is still an outstanding film.  One of the best sci-fi comedies ever.

Oddly, MST3K:The Movie didn't even occur to me.

Also, I note that today is the anniversary of it's release.

Woot! High five for the anniversary!

I keep meaning to watch Galaxy Quest, but also keep putting it off for whatever reason. I do need to ask, though, is it accessible to someone who's not a Star Trek fan? I've got nothing against the franchise or anything I've just seen absolutely none of it outside the newest movie. So I'm wondering how much of an in-joke that movie might be and how much might go over my head because of it.
You don't really need to have seen the original show or any of the movies to get it.

Good to know! I'll start taking it up a few notches on the netflix queue.

Cowboys are stupid.

I can't agree with a blanket statement like that. I just thought that movie was stupid.

Never saw it. I remember a friend telling me in high school how much he liked it, and as he was talking excitedly about it, trying to "sell" it to me, everything he said about it made me want to see it even less.  I just don't like cowboy movies, regardless of the individual cowboy's intelligence.

Was there a particular movie that made you hate the genre or is it the idea of cowboys in general?

Mostly the latter. I think it's that I hate the idea of the cowboy (usually someone willfully and pridefully ignorant, dirty, and violent).

In that case, you and Unforgiven are in total agreement.
I'm all out for kicks...and every inch of me spells EXCITEMENT!

Yeah, all you really need to know about Star Trek to "get" Galaxy Quest is the show's reputation.

Galaxy Quest didn't make my list, but it is a damned good movie.  It's been a while since I've watched it, so I should give it another view when I have the chance.

Clerks made my list.  Definitely Kevin Smith's best movie.  Very funny and knows how to use what little budget it has with good characters.

I used to find westerns dull when I was young, but as I've grown older, I like them much more.  When they're well done.  When I find someone who doesn't like Westerns, I want to sit them down to watch the Good, the Bad and the Ugly.  Completely hypnotic and very, very fun (and funny).  Personally, I think all time periods are interesting when an interesting view is taken from them.

Have you seen any of the Trinity series? They're comedy westerns from the same era, and they're a bunch of fun.  Especially My Name is Nobody.

Ones that were on my list...

MST3K The Movie
Should have been on everyone's list. If it wasn't, go to the corner and hang your sorrowful heads. And if your a Catholic say 10 Hail Mary's and 5 Our Fathers.

Galaxy Quest
It's a riot beginning to end. Teases the franchise while staying respectful at the same time.

Unforgiven
Is one of the great pictures, western or otherwise (I don't care if a movie is a western, romance, comedy, etc. All I care about is wether it's good). Eastwood is a master when it comes to delving into gray areas. He shows how terrible and ugly violence can be -- explores and deconstructs the western myth, and in the end, becomes that myth manifested.

I think it's Clint greatest achievement - it's is a surprisingly complex and eloquent western, with a slow simmering, somber rhythm that I found appealing.

I'm a dumbass.  Muppet's Christmas Carol is not joint 19th with Unforgiven.  It's 18th, which makes Galaxy Quest 17th and Clerks 16th.

I've amended the original entries for a clarity.

One of my favorite movies! And I'm not a goth kid.

Which one is Behemoth? The fat clown on the unicycle?

EDIT: I'm also not normally much a fan of musicals, but I love all the music in this one. I often have one of the songs running in my head. It's fun, but my coworkers look at me wierd when I am singing "this is Halloween, Halloween, Halloween" to myself in April.

Also, one of my friends, she is a HUGE fan of musicals, particularly Broadway plays. And she hates this movie. She made me turn it off less than ten minutes in. Wierd.
