Ugh, Forrest Gump? And that beat The Mummy?

Look at that, something we agree on.  The only film I've ever walked out of.

Forrest Gump was kind of a weird one for me.  The first time I saw it I kind of enjoyed it but the more I thought about it the more I despised it.  The fact that it won Best Picture over Pulp Fiction and Shawshank Redemption is kind of mind boggling looking back on it.  Hell, even 4 Weddings and A Funeral (which also lost Best Picture that year) is a hell of a lot better than Gump.

Utter sentimental claptrap that is only sentimental if you remember the '60s, '70s, and '80s through some sort of drug haze.  Hate this movie with a passion.

Gump is one that gets a lot of hate these days, something I really think is mainly due to it winning way more awards than it should've and generally being too big for its britches (this usually happen when an otherwise decent but non-deserving film takes top prize... so, needless to say it happens a lot). Yeah, the movie is past even Spielberg levels of forced sentimentality, but I still rather like it. Found it sort of charming, just this dude wandering through life and making history happen along the way.

Trivia fact! Writers Joel Coen and Ethan Coen suffered writer's block while writing Miller's Crossing. They took a three week break and wrote Barton Fink a film about a writer with writer's block. The name of Tom Regan's residence is "The Barton Arms". In one of the newspapers an article reads 'Seven Dead in Hotel Fire,' another reference to Barton Fink.

Wayne's World is one I absolutely loved when it came out but I haven't seen it in ages and am worried that it hasn't aged well.  Need to revisit it at some point.

It hasn't.

yeah, right, and monkeys might fly out of my butt.

That was really funny.......not!

Knock it off.

That's three so far today, isn't it? So two more.

There may not be any updates tomorrow or Saturday.  I am working a combined 30 hours for those two days, so I may not get around to posting anything.  I have the entries completed for that time, but I don't really want to dump them out all at once.

Yay!  It's my favorite Coen Bros. movie.  Thanks in large part to the great Jon Polito.  Up until I saw him in an episode of It's Always Sunny in Pennsylvania this last year, I honestly thought Jon Polito was dead.  In fact, I would always get sad watching Miller's Crossing because I'd think about the world not having Jon Polito in it anymore.  And then I saw him on tv and I was all like oh okay then, Jon Polito's not dead.  Nice.

Trivia fact! In early visual development, Aladdin resembled Michael J. Fox. As the film developed, Jeffrey Katzenberg didn't think Aladdin had enough appeal to women, so he asked that Aladdin be beefed up a bit to resemble Tom Cruise.

And he ends resembling David Schwimmer instead.

Apparently Jennifer Connelly was the inspiration for Jasmine.  That explains why I voted for her in that poll that time.
