Am I seriously the only one who had Barton Fink? I can't be alone on this.  Watched it with my sister recently.  She admitted that she didn't get it, but she liked it all the same and found it a funny, scary ride.  John Goodman's best role by far.  And I like John Goodman.

People here were talking about films that can be scene as comedies and dramas, but Barton Fink is a little more difficult to categorize.  It's darkly funny, unsettling and just plain unpredictable.

And check it, I was looking for some good clips of the movie and found a Frenchman remade a scene for a University Project.  Well done, though he has a hard time selling the heat.

Had Waking Ned Devine on my list but didn't quite make it.  Like so many others.

Oh yeah, doing this from my phone so was tricky to check once I'd started typing. Nice one everyone! :)

The Big Lebowski says hello.  As does Raising Arizona.

Quick Change is highly underrated and one of Bill Murray's best.
It also has, at least in England, some of the funniest inept ADRing for Television. Putting in Viking for another word that ends in "king" leads to some entertaining sentences, for example.

Replacing "finger" with "flipper" in the Matrix is still my favorite. It doesn't even change the meaning, and what? the word "finger" is offensive?
Plus I can think of a few instances where substituting 'flipper' for 'finger' conjures up far more horrifying images.

With no disrespect to those fine characters (and let's throw in the cyclops preacher from O Brother), my statement stands.

It is cool that all of these roles are Coen Brothers creations.

And Raising Arizona is a freaking awesome movie!

I was kind of hoping we'd keep arguing so we could get to this point.

Monty: Come on, Lebowski clearly contains his best role.

Me: You're wrong.

Monty: Why are you insisting on this.

Me: BECAUSE! YOU! JUST! WON'T! LISTEN!

But yeah, the Coens are by far amazing utilizers of everything Goodman brings to the table.  Most might think of him as some goofy fat dad or something, but they see a variety of roles inside him.

BTW, first time I saw Barton Fink, the DVD menu more or less gives away the climax.  Not cool, DVD makers.

Huh. Here's my list.

1   L.A. Confidential
2   Saving Private Ryan
3   Heat
4   The Matrix
5   Maverick
6   Mystery Science Theater The Movie
7   Apollo 13
8   South Park: B,L,U
9   Scream
10   There's Something About Mary
11   The Hunt for Red October
12   Galaxy Quest
13   The Mummy
14   Speed
15   Shawshank Redemption
16   Wayne's World
17   The Nightmare Before Christmas
18   Grosse Point Blank
19   Groundhog Day
20   Chasing Amy
21   The Big Lebowski
22   Tombstone
23   Hot Shots!
24   The Rock
25   Independence Day

First of all, the lack of love for Heat? Criminal. But more importantly, after submitting this list I put it aside and haven't looked at until until the last few days. And after reviewing it, I was left  with one question - "Why the hell did I put Maverick on the list?" I mean it's a decent enough film, but my 5th favorite film? Um, no. Not really. I'm not really sure what I meant to type in that box, but whatever it was, Maverick seems to have mugged it and moved in.

I have a good friend who considers Maverick his all time favourite.  I wouldn't go that far, but it is tremendously fun.

Had I been around for this list Fink would have been number 1. My absolute favorite Coen film, and quite possibly favorite in general.
