Wayne's World is one I absolutely loved when it came out but I haven't seen it in ages and am worried that it hasn't aged well.  Need to revisit it at some point.

It hasn't.

It doesn't seem like it would have.  But I will probably give it a look at some point anyway.

Also, what language were the descriptions translated from?

It's like Doc Thinker wrote the descriptions.

...and I'm likely the only person who'll get that reference.

When Dana Carvey was on SNL last year, they rehashed all his old stuff, and it just wasn't funny at all.  I do have very fond memories of seeing it originally, though.

Iron Giant.  If I would have remembered it was in the 90's, it would have been in my list.  The Brave Little Toaster is another one of those movies I can't remember what decade it's from, and hopes that it was made in the 90's and people remembered it and put it on their lists, because I flubbed on that one, too.

That being said, This is going to be a fun list.  :)  Great movies so far.

That was really funny.......not!

Even the movies that make fun of how outdated that is (Borat) are outdated themselves (My wife!)

Rushmore is great, but I guess it depends on your tolerance for Wes Anderson and his particularl style.

I find him almost unwatchable myself, I think Life Aquatic and Fantastic Mr. Fox are fun but I found Royal Tenenbaums almost as annoying as I did Little Miss Sunshine.  I find the self-aware, 'zany' dysfunctionality beyond irritating.

I like Rushmore OK, but it didn't get near my list.  I just knew it wouldn't.

Don't think Wayne's World would hold up on reviewing.  On another note, anyone remember the Dana Carvey Show.  I'm told that does hold up.  Very well.  Apparently having Louis CK and Robert Smigel in you're writing room does that.  Oh, and apparently all the episodes are on Youtube courtesy of Crackle.

Seriously, I need to find where the descriptions Basehart is using come from.  Wherever it is, I have a feeling I'll waste hours there.

Doesn't hurt to have these two around, either.

The thing with Anderson that elevates him among the other super-indie/quirky crowd is that he at least is entirely, completely sincere about the insecure worlds he creates, and also backs them up with really, really involved histories. He creates these realities and goes all the way with them, which is a big part in what makes them work. He's not doing weird for the sake of weird here, after all.

I direct folks to this article by the great Film Crit Hulk that does a good job explaining all this (mind the Hulkspeak. Trust me, it's worth the read): http://badassdigest.com/2012/02/21/film-crit-hulk-smash-hulk-vs-the-war-on-quirk/

Who can ever forget the heart-breaking "Jenny fails her finals" scene from Forrest Gump where her hippie flower-child ways are no help in a trig exam.
