I like Gaffigan - how is the new album? I tend not to buy stand-up comedy, as there's so much of it out there.

Well the new special is a video not an album and I haven't seen it yet myself.  I just saw him live on the tour with this new material.  He was pretty funny on that night.

Here is an "infomercial" that explains the deal:

I'm off to see Rhys Darby tonight.  If the name sounds familiar, but you can't place the face, he's this guy:

Yep, Murray from Flight of the Conchords.  I have no idea if he'll be any good, but I'm looking forward to finding out.

I love this guy! He was great in Yes Man, as well. Haven't seen much of him at all lately. Oh, for another season of FOTC! *sigh*

Never seen his act; looking forward to the rundown.

Just got back.  He was great!  He first came out as Bill Napier, a New Zealand Ranger who did security for the Rhys Darby tour and the material and delivery was exactly the same kind of thing you'd see in Flight of the Conchords.  He made some "announcements" like, "Jack Williams? Are you here? You left your lights on...in your house.  What are you, scared of the dark, mate?"

The support came on after that and wasn't very good.  A young New Zealander whose best joke was that he'd won the dubious award for "Most Improved Comic" but then it degenerated into relationship jokes and weak songs.

Then Darby came on for about 90 minutes straight.  He was really funny, doing drawn out stories about his nerdy childhood and when he told his careers guidance counsellor that the job he wanted was to do "sound effects." He was surprisingly physical too, with lots of dancing, prancing about the stage as different characters such as Mick Jagger Alsatian.  It was all framed really strangely though, as the routines were merely Darby remembering his past life as he awoke from cryostasis onboard a spaceship overseen by Al (I think Reggie Watts did the voice, but I'll have to look it up) with no pay off whatsoever.

I watched Jim Gaffigan's Mr. Universe on Netflix Instant.  Really funny stuff.  Especially his bit about going to Subway and the people working there.

Mike Birbiglia

More attention needs to be brought to this. His "regular" stand up is funny, but he really shines when sharing his personal/embarrassing stories. His Sleepwalk with Me Live album is my personal favorite comedy album by a pretty wide margin. He never gets political (except once in an incredibly "silly", for lack of a better word, way) which is perfectly fine by me.

The whole Sleepwalk album is on Grooveshark. Just listen to the first track, it gives you a good idea of what the whole album is like.

I wonder whatever happened to Keith (IIRC) from Cinester Theater doing standup?

I'm sure I'm not going to list anyone new but I LOVE Stand-up Comedy. Here are my top 5 in no real order.

-Louis C.K - I can listen to any of his standups or bits on the Opie and Anthony show, many many times, and will still laugh. He's amazing, his show is amazing, everything he does is brilliant. I'm going to see him live with some friends New Years Eve here in Baltimore City, so excited!

-Patrice O'Neal - RIP Big Man. I think when he died he was really just starting to click, I believe if he would of lasted, he could of been up-there with the other famous comedians of the world. He doesn't have many shows out but his one "Elephant in the Room" is on netflix  and it's hilarious. He also did alot of stuff on Opie and Anthony. One of his best bits here :
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/1IaVy3-ezlA" target="_blank" class="new_win">http://www.youtube.com/v/1IaVy3-ezlA</a>

Bill Burr - He's another Opie and Anthony alum. He has a few specials on Netflix and youtube. He's just a funny ranter and kinda-angry-guy. He's pretty well known for spending an entire 12minutes cursing out an an entire venue of hecklers/drunks at an Opie and Anthony Comedy Show...turned that crowd back on his side. It was glorious.

Patton Oswalt - Everyone knows Patton. Funny, sarcastic, and a bit nerdy.

Brian Regan - I had the pleasure of seeing him live, I honestly thought I was going to end up hurting myself due to laughing so much and so hard. A genius in clean comedy.

No Matter Where you go, there you are.

I love Louis CK. Tried watching one of the Brian Regan things on netflix but couldn't get into it; I think it was just that he seemed to think he was funnier than I did.

Some comedians aren't for everyone :) But, I do have a clip or two that might explain some of the funny.

Stupid in School w/ cool animation! This one is my particular favorite.

Louis C.K. hosted SNL last night. This was by far the best bit to come out if it.

Thanks NBC, for letting me download the entire thing before telling me I'm not allowed to view the video.

I'm going to see Stewart Francis in a week or so.  He's basically a one-liner guy:

I've gotta say, Stand Up Comedy is not one of my favorite U2 songs.

I thought it was funny, but not all THAT great. And if that's the best skit of the night, yeesh, SNL is in bad shape.
