I don't think you could characterize Satan any better than as a lawyer~

yeah but it was a recycled concept.

the devil and mr webster anyone?

Actually, Walter Huston's Mr. Scratch is up there for me, as are the similar Satan characters in Cool Hand Luke and Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?

Last Temptation's representations of both Jesus and the Devil (in four or five different incarnations) were brilliant, but for some reason putting the characters in their approximately Biblical roles doesn't seem like it should count.

Anyone ever read the comic book series Lucifer? Now, that's an amusing Satan.

He was strangely intimidating without being showy about it.

I agree, though i couldnt stand the movie, i thought he was the one thing they did well.

For the record i thought the passion had a very beleivable satan.

As for God, I don't believe anyone can do Him justice unless it's for a comedy, and in that regard, I'd have to toss a bone to George Burns

I knew someone was going to bring him up but i think george burns has as much right to play god as jerry fallwell has of playing darwin.

What are your thoughts on Harvey Keitel in little nicky.  I absolutely hate Adam Sandler and the majority of his movies as a whole.  I did however like casting Harvey Keitel in this role.

And I don't care how bad the movie was, Elisabeth Hurley was smokin in Bedazzled.

I don't know if he was Satan, but Tim Curry was pretty badass in Legend.

The 'friendly bloke' style Satan in the original was pretty great, but I can't be a fair judge of anything in Bedazzled due to the utter suckiness of that movie. The amazing thing is that Fraser isn't actually a terrible actor (see Gods and Monsters, the Quiet American,) so I really don't know who to blame.

I say see Encino Man and the Mummy movies.  He's done way more bad movies than good ones.

I liked him as Pennywise more but I agree with this one.  I'm not really sure if he was supposed to be Satan or not either.

Encino Man isn't fair, there's no way one could possibly have a movie with Pauly Shore and not have an utterly awful movie. As for the Mummy, I only saw the first one, but I think Fraser played that role about as well as it could be played; it was a pretty dumb movie, but I don't think anyone was trying for anything else.

my favorite, hands down.  at first not "evil",just seductive

my other fave is lucifer in the "sandman" comic books.  he's pretty, and..seductive.

the guy in constantine was pretty good, i must admit.

I can't bring myself to say Alanis Morisette made a good God, but she made a good CONCEPT... :^)

great concept. if you know christian theology at all, it's even better. (the not speaking thing...)

jesus of nazareth & the passion of the christ were my fave depictions of Jesus by FAR.

Satan is easy to do....God is harder to portray   :P

Well then at least he's to blame for picking bad roles.

This is the same character as the one in the Lucifer series. You should read it, it's good. A little more comic bookish and a little less meditative than Sandman, but honestly, what's as good as Sandman?
