We learned that...
« on: March 25, 2012, 10:38:06 PM »
...Falling ten feet onto concrete won't shatter your skull, just keep you from a horseback riding field trip.

...There's always someone awake in a construction site field office to run to for help.

...No homeless people will ever be found camped out in half-finished houses.

... kids break into construction sites to experience their magical wonder, never to drink entire bottles of Mogen David 20/20 and smoke the roach ends they stole from their big brother's room.

Running around a deserted construction site filled with scaffolding and dirt is more fun than Disneyland!  It's also more dangerous than a an S&M Club.

I learned that claymation is way better than real actors.

I learned that it's a damn miracle that none of the kids wound up horribly maimed while making this short.
Oh bite me, it's fun!

When the girl - whatzer-damn-name...Christine...that was it - falls into the hole trying to save her friend, the scene showing her two legs descending to construction site Hell is laughably obviously using a  dummy. It would be a difficult scene to film otherwise but maybe they ought to have just done the whole bleedin' thing in claymation. Or at least weighted the dummy properly.  Watch it and you'll see what I mean.  The fall speed is all wrong for a human body, even a child.

Things I learned:

- Not all Canadian people sound like Geddy Lee.
- Canada is even more boring than I could possibly imagine.
- Gravity isn't as strong in Canada (as witnessed by Christine slowly falling into the basement).
- The foreman of a construction site has to wear a hard hat at all times, but little kids are free to roam about without one.

I learned that even-though claymation construction worker said the kids injuries "could have been worse", Ricky was expected to spend the better part of the Summer recovering in the hospital.  Probably learning to walk again after having a broken back.

A cracked skull could have easily happened.  That would, or at least could, be worse.

Sure, but I say a broken spine and needing severe rehabilitation at grade-school age is pretty darn "terrible" as it is but the ending narration seems to suggest the kids are fine inspite of already some pretty severe injuries.  The girl appeared to be okay, but the boy had some bad injuries if he couldn't feel his legs/move after falling and was expected to spend the whole summer in the hospital.

Wasn't disagreeing with that at all.  Just suggesting that anything requiring brain surgery and possibly involving years of vegetative coma (and plug-pulling decisions) would definitely be worse.  Would not care to have any of these conditions.  I will add, also, that there were construction sites all over the damn place when I was about Christine's age and I played in them EVERY DAY.  I just had a brain and watched where I was friggin' going.  People assume kids are a lot stupider than they are sometimes.  (The reverse, granted, is also true.)
