Well, it's not like this is the first time she'd been involved in a remake of questionable necessity.

That was fucking awful. I could barely stay awake during the goddamn thing. And it has really high marks on RT and IMDB. I'm clearly missing something with this movie.

I actually thought it was pretty good, remake-status and all. Trouble is, of course, the original film is a flat-out masterpiece, and this thing was clearly made to just get an English version of that movie out there (those early remarks about it being another adaptation of the book were lies, vicious lies).

Same here, RD.  Let Me In was pretty good, but Let the Right One In is great.

Thanks for reminding me of the impending Martyrs remake, which is not so much of questionable necessity as it is completely fucking unnecessary and just wrong.

Universal Pictures is planning a sequel to the 1988 comedy, Twins, and the plan is to re-team the original's stars, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito, with an unlikely third on-screen brother: Eddie Murphy.

The Hollywood Reporter has the news, saying that the original film's director, Ivan Reitman will also return as a producer, though the project does not yet have a script at this time.

Awesome.  I hope they make Arnie pregnant, DeVito the Penguin just to top it all off.  And as Eddie Murphy is in it, it'll stay on a shelf somewhere for 3 years before making about $100 in revenue.

I could not be any less interested in this. Yet another completely needless remake.

Why do all movie trailers now do that guitar-grinding sound over and over? This one had it, and when I saw John Carter again yesterday, Battleship, Prometheus, and The Avengers all had it. It's fucking annoying.

I guess it's just another one of those things that trailers take from each other and just start using all the time, like "In a world..." or I Feel Good.

Dumb and Dumber 2 Begins Production This September

Quote
Last summer, ComingSoon.net broke the news that Jim Carrey was in discussions with Bobby and Peter Farrelly to develop a sequel to their 1994 film Dumb and Dumber. Then, in October, it was revealed that Sean Anders and John Morris had come aboard to provide the screenplay. Today, at the junket for he and his brother's latest, The Three Stooges, Peter Farrelly says that not only is Dumb and Dumber 2 coming, it's set to begin production later this year.

"We're getting set to shoot 'Dumb and Dumber 2' in September," he says. "It's the first sequel we've ever done and we've got Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels back."

The original Dumb and Dumber represented one of Carrey's breakout comedy roles. The film was given a prequel in 2003 with Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd, but Peter Farrelly stresses that this is something very different.

"We did not do 'Dumb and Dumberer,'" he continues. "That was a studio thing. So we've always wanted to do a sequel and finally Jim called up. Jeff always wanted to do it. We always wanted to do it. Jim was busy, but he called and said, 'We've got to do this thing again.' He had just watched 'Dumb and Dumber' and he said, 'This is the perfect sequel. Let's do it.'"

'Captain America: First Avenger' Sequel Release Date Set

Quote
A sequel to last year's Captain America: First Avenger will hit theaters April 4, 2014.

Walt Disney Studios, which will release the movie for Marvel Studios, announced the date Thursday. It puts the Captain America movie a month ahead of Sony's scheduled release of a sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man on May 5, 2014.

Captain America, played by Chris Evans, also will be making an appearance as part of the team of superheroes who join forces in The Avengers, which Disney releases May 4. The character will then move to a second movie as the headliner. Captain America: The First Avenger, grossed $369 million worldwide after its July release.

I wonder if there's somebody already in line somewhere.

Universal sets 'Mummy' reboot - 'Prometheus' scribe plans to pen redo on an 'epic scale'

Quote
Universal Pictures has tapped "Prometheus" scribe Jon Spaihts to pen a feature reboot of "The Mummy" franchise, which Sean Daniel will return to produce.
Stephen Sommers' 1999 take on "The Mummy," which starred Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, grossed $415 million worldwide but was outperformed by its 2001 sequel "The Mummy Returns," which took in $433 million globally. Chuck Russell's 2002 spinoff "The Scorpion King" grossed only $165 million worldwide despite starring then-budding action star Dwayne Johnson. Fraser returned for Rob Cohen's "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor," and that 2008 pic took in $401 million worldwide, indicating there was still plenty of interest left in the franchise. Daniel produced all four films in the billion-dollar-grossing series.

"I see it as the sort of opportunity I had with 'Prometheus': to go back to a franchise's roots in dark, scary source material and simultaneously open it up to an epic scale we haven't seen before," Spaihts said.

Michael Bay's Production Company May Take Over Halloween 3D

Quote
Last month we warned that Dimension's long-delayed Halloween 3D may be dead for good, following news that its theatrical release had been plucked from the horror studio's calendar. But now there's buzz that Michael Myers may return to theaters after all, thanks to Platinum Dunes. According to Bloody Disgusting, Michael Bay's production company has entered into negotiations to produce the latest entry in the Halloween reboot series. However, while Dunes' interest in Halloween could keep the series going, it does mean some losses from Dimension's Halloween 3D.

From the sound of it, this deal could mean Halloween 3D will lose its proposed found footage approach, attached directing duo Todd Farmer and Patrick Lussier, (My Bloody Valentine, Drive Angry) and the use of 3D. Basically, Platinum Dunes is considering a total tear down of the project, which should be little surprise to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fans who've recently revolted against Bay's purported revisions to the property for his movie reboot Ninja Turtles. Of course, as this is the third film in the series, the changes Bay and his team could bring to the table will probably be less radical. And to their credit Platinum Dunes co-founders Brad Fuller and Andrew Form have produced a string of well-received horror remakes of late, including The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Amityville Horror, Friday the 13th and A Nightmare On Elm Street.

I always thought Halloween could've used a few more explosions. And by "a few" I mean hundreds.

It's too bad that future Captain America movies probably won't be set during WWII.  I really like the sort of Art-Deco-Neo-Steampunk feel of the first one.

This Ted movie....

They should have done Calvin and Hobbes 15 years later, I'd watch that.

They already made a Calvin and Hobbes movie. It's called Where the Wild Things Are.

Yeah, it was one of my favorite things about it.  Johnston's good at that era.  Plus, that hot English chick won't be in future movies.
Agreed! I was hoping that the sequels would be set during the unspecified time during WWII when he was fighting Hydra. And hopefully Nazis this time.
