What's with the sledgehammer part?

I just got this short not too long ago on one of my Rifftrax Shorts Shopping Sprees, and this one part bugs me. When the guy's slamming a metal peg with a hammer, he gets hit by something with enough force that it punctures his chest. What exactly happened there?

Wow, I didn't even realise it'd be possible to hit yourself with a chipped-off piece of metal at such a speed that it pierces your chest. Shows how much I know about workplace safety!

Oh dear God, why am I watching this?! :speechless: That was both hilarious and disturbing.
My favorite part has got to be when the pressurized canister went flying at that one guy's head, he ducked it, and it crashed through the window and hit the guy in the office in the head. Yes, the dangers of desk jobs, graphically depicted
