It was the "far" side of the money (the part that is always in the dark.)  In the movie (spoilers... I guess) some ship of the transformers' crashed on the far side of the moon in the early 1960s.  This was detected (!) by earth nations which started the "space race" to the moon.  While Americans thought the transmissions from Apollo 11 had ended for the evening in reality the astronauts were investigating the crashed alien ship.  Which, again, was on the far side of the moon always shrouded in darkness.  I've no idea how close the SoT is to the far-side of the moon but I'm guessing it's not walking distance for an astronaut in a suit with limited air supply.

Well, that's true enough.  It has no place anywhere near a Michael Bay film either.

Does the movie say that the far side of the moon is always in the dark?  Because it isn't.

I don't think even the poles are always in the dark, though I could be wrong about that.

i know at least the north pole sees 8 hours of light a day, as it would be one of the better spots for colonization.

I learned the Sea of Tranquility is  close to the Dark Side of the Moon...  in this movie...somehow.
Actually, (and I'm not saying this to be a jerk) depending on the time of month, the Sea Of Tranquility is often close to the dark side, or even in the dark side of the moon.  I haven't seen the movie yet, so I have to ask:  do you mean the far side?

Yeah I think I confused Far side with Dark side.  So... I learned... one isn't necessarily the other?
And I'm worse than Hitler.

The "far side" is the part that never faces the earth (the moon is tidally locked, we always see the same side of the moon.)  The "dark side" is, well, whatever side is dark to us.   So when, for example, we have a "new moon" (where there's no moon at all) the side we normally see is dark but the "far side" is lit... to no one's advantage.

But on a pure basis of just every-day,  layman, talk saying the "dark side" is probably enough to get the message across you're talking about the "far side" of the moon we never see.

I just assumed they couldn't say "far side" because Gary Larson would have sued.

Finally saw it.  It hurt me...

I did learn that you can write a line saying that Chernobyl won't be inhabitable for 20,000 years, put it in a big budget movie, and no one will even check to see if it's accurate.  I mean, it's only off by something like 19,900 years, but who's counting?

I also learned that it's possible to make a movie that is worse than Transformers 2, that John Malkovich and Frances McDormand will do anything for a paycheck and that it was actually possible for me to hate Michael Bay more than I already did.
