The poor Group Captain who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time when General Ripper's long simmering madness finally causes him to ignite World War III.  Also, he makes enemies with Coca Cola.

He's spending his time humouring crazy second bananas.  He's good at it, but I'm beginning to think that one person's second banana heaven is another person's... well, you know.

Just a clarification, but I was the one who had Fiver at #2, not Sutter Cane. So if anyone wants to complain about that, address it to me.

Personally, I loathe George Costanza (as well as the other two Seinfeld sidekicks), so I'm happy to see him so low on the list. And I figured I'd be the only one to vote for Fiver, so I'm glad so see he made it at all.

Oooh. Jigen. I really need to get back into Lupin III. Have they ever released a proper box set of the episodes that aired on Adult Swim back in the day? I know the translation was a bit modern (Is it still localizing if you're adapting the script for the present day vs. the '70s?) but I really enjoyed the writing and voice acting...

Well I loathe your bunny. As a matter of fact, I hope he has an unfortunate encounter with a wood chipper.  :P

Awesome, he was such a magnificent bastard, one of the few Tories I genuinely like. :)

Though I'd have included his love of Thatch's ankles, so queasily Victorian!

47 – Hermione Granger

Hermione Jean Granger is a fictional character and one of the three protagonists (the other two being Harry Potter and Ron Weasley) in J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter series. She initially appears in the first novel, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, as a new student on her way to Hogwarts. After being saved in the girls' bathroom from a mountain troll by Harry and Ron, she becomes close friends with them and often uses her quick wit, deft recall, and encyclopaedic knowledge to help them. Rowling has stated that Hermione resembles her at a younger age, with her insecurity and fear of failure.

Hermione is a Muggle-born Gryffindor student, and the best friend of Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. Rowling states that she was born on 19 September and she was nearly twelve when she first attended Hogwarts. She is an overachiever who excels academically, and is described by Rowling as a "very logical, upright and good" character. Rowling adds that Hermione's parents, two Muggle dentists, are a bit bemused by their odd daughter but very proud of her all the same." They are well aware of the wizarding world and have visited Diagon Alley with her. Though Rowling has described the character of Luna Lovegood as the "anti-Hermione" because they are so different, Hermione's foil at Hogwarts is Pansy Parkinson, a female bully based on real-life girls who teased the author during her school days.

Rowling claims the character of Hermione carries several autobiographical influences. "I did not set out to make Hermione like me but she is...she is an exaggeration of how I was when I was younger." She recalled being called a "little know-it-all" in her youth. Moreover, she states that not unlike herself, "there is a lot of insecurity and a great fear of failure" beneath Hermione's swottiness. Finally, according to Rowling, next to Albus Dumbledore, Hermione is the perfect expository character; because of her encyclopaedic knowledge, she can always be used as a plot dump to explain the Harry Potter universe. Rowling also claims that her feminist conscience is saved by Hermione, "who's the brightest character" and is a "very strong female character".

Hermione's name is derived from William Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale; Rowling claimed that she wanted it to be unusual since if fewer girls shared her name, fewer girls would get teased for it and it seemed that "a pair of professional dentists, who liked to prove how clever they are...gave [her] an unusual name that no-one could pronounce." Her original last name was "Puckle", but Rowling felt the name "did not suit her at all", and so the less frivolous Granger made it into the books. Rowling confirmed in a 2004 interview that Hermione is an only child.

Been getting on very well with Brainy Smurf.  However, I’m wondering if she’s found a kindred spirit or simply wants to turn him into gold.

Right on! Had Hermione at #19. It's "Hermione", not "Hermoine" by the way.

She's a smart, sassy bad-ass.

Lupin is still groovin' every year with a new 90 minute TV movie, hell yeah. They didn't release all of that series over here (155 episodes). But the first series from before that with the green jacket and Miyazaki they're releasing soon. Plus a buncha movies/specials on DVD yepyep.

Groovy list so far, high in potassium!

46 – Jay and Silent Bob

Jay and Silent Bob are fictional characters portrayed by Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith, respectively, in Kevin Smith's View Askewniverse, a fictional universe created and used in most films, comics and television by Smith, which began in Clerks.

Jay and Silent Bob have appeared in most of Smith's films with the exceptions being Jersey Girl, Zack and Miri Make a Porno, Cop Out, and Red State. In Smith's universe, the characters are shown spending most of their time selling marijuana in front of the convenience store in theClerks films. An exception to their drug trafficking occurred in Clerks: The Animated Series, in which they were selling illegal fireworks instead of drugs.

The duo express a great interest in John Hughes' films such as Sixteen Candles, the film Purple Rain, the heavy metal musician King Diamond, shown in Clerks II, when Silent Bob is asked to put on music and plays the song "Welcome Home" from King Diamond's 1988 album, Them, the funk and dance-pop ensemble Morris Day and the Time, Canadian "melo-drama" television shows such as Degrassi The Next Generation, Buffalo Bill's infamous nude dancing scene (to the song "Goodbye Horses") from The Silence of the Lambs, as well as in X-Men.

Jay and Silent Bob are said to have been born in Leonardo, New Jersey in the early 1970s. They met as infants in front of Quick Stop Groceries while their mothers shopped inside RST Video as seen in the film Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back

Silent Bob's distinguishing features are his heavy smoking, long coat, dark hair, beard, and backwards baseball cap. He was raised Catholic, and is a gadgetry genius. True to his name, Silent Bob rarely speaks but when he does he often has something profound or thoughtful to say, delivering insightful monologues to the other characters only in appropriate situations. Otherwise he relies on hand gestures and facial expressions to communicate. Jay once mentioned that Silent Bob rarely speaks because he feels he leaves a major impact when he does speak. Silent Bob is often agitated towards Jay and whenever Silent Bob does speak, he will sometimes criticize Jay. In Clerks: The Animated Series, Bob is called "Blutarsky", but according to Smith, it was only a joke that referenced "Animal House" and he never gave Bob a last name.

Jay is thinner and slightly taller than Bob, and has long blond hair. In several of the later View Askewniverse films, Jay wears a black toque. In contrast to Bob, Jay speaks quite frequently and crudely and often treats people with cruelty or disrespect, including Silent Bob. Jay's excessive cursing seems due to influence from his overbearing mother, who is shown continually using profanity in front of him. His first word was "fuck". In Clerks, the first film to feature the duo, Jay wears a baseball cap.

I can’t understand the blonde one at all.  What is snootchies?  Is it dirty?

I always considered Silent Bob to be the sidekick, I guess just because Jay does all the talking and Bob pretty much just nods his approval. I guess they could be considered equals.

Yikes!  :speechless:

I'm surprised Ed Norton ranked so low. I had him on my list. Granted he was pretty far down on the list, but still, I figured more than two people would vote for him.

BTW, here's a much more appropriate video for Fiver:

Well one vote was for both and was for just one, so I thought this would make things easier.
