Movie Cliche Bingo
« on: October 08, 2011, 08:45:58 PM »
Since they mentioned movie cliche bingo in Laser Mission, allow me to introduce the version that I've been working on:

Click for a bingo card

Every time you reload the page, it generates a random bingo card like this one:

The current list of cliches is in the original thread. Please let me know if I forgot any!

It randomly selects from the list for each box, so there can be duplicates. Maybe I should think about preventing that(?) I dunno, I'll have to think about it.

It looks like my previously submitted "rejected as spam" thread got accepted, so I'll try to get rid of it. Here's the one reply:

I nominate what was once declared, by movie census, the most overused cinematic cliche of all time:

"Let's get out of here!"

I will add it!

For some reason, I hear it in Shaggy's voice with a "SCOOB" at the end.

Awesome job!

May I suggest the center square be "free"?  Give us a chance :-)

This is difficult to condense into a bingo cell, but another cliche is the computer screen that displays text slowly, beeps for each character, and or reads the text in a synthesized voice.  The modern take on that theme is unnecessary graphics on a workplace utility program, and zooming/rotating images that would virtually never happen with a real work program, no matter how evil the corporation or how highly funded/undercover the spy operation is.

You know, that thought had occurred to me but I was on the fence. Since you mentioned it, I think I'll make that change.

Some of that is covered by "Guessing the password" and "Enhance/Magnify", but I get what you're going for. Those improbable computer functions always annoy me.

I love the "enhance/magnify" one; it reminds me of high tech war room scenes where the screen is the size of a wall, in the middle of the room, and transparent.  The other half of the viewers would have to read it as a mirror image.  I did see a product like that in SkyMall once, but it was for pet use :-)
