I've been helping out a customer like this.
Except he lives in Texas and is building a pool so he can ease his dog's arthritis.
He was having problems with delivery of various parts and I jokingly commented that I sensed a theme.
When he told me why he was building the pool, I thought of this picture and just lost it.
First time I ever had to excuse myself to go bawl my eyes out.

This was my neighbor, Judy.  After her pet died, she would look in my window and talk to my cat.  One day she asked if she could have my cat. I said "No, but have faith. God moves in mysterious ways." 
   
After that I started putting cat food near her apartment each night. Wasn't long before a stray came around.  She snagged it and was praising God for bringing her a cat.  I never told her.

So, the elderly need a reality check that they are headed nowhere fast.

I think it would have been smarter to get her a cat (or help her get one) from the SPCA. Rather than risk getting her a feral disease ridden street cat.

I took the cat to the vet, had it spayed, given a physical and the appropriate shots. Judy died two years later.  The cat now lives outside my apartment. Still gets yearly check up and shots.  The cat wasn't feral. It was either lost or abandoned.
