I, I will be king
And you, you will be queen
Though nothing will drive them away
We can be Heroes, just for one day
We can be us, just for one day

I, I can remember (I remember)
Standing, by the wall (by the wall)
And the guns shot above our heads
(over our heads)
And we kissed,
as though nothing could fall
(nothing could fall)
And the shame was on the other side
Oh we can beat them, for ever and ever
Then we could be Heroes,
just for one day

Yeah, what's the rationale there?

The state is concerned about them speeding dangerously fast down roads and stealing all the gold rings.

Yeah, what's the rationale there?

Probably many-fold.  Two things I can think of off the top of my head for private ownership are the likelihood of them being mishandled/mistreated by those who wouldn't know how to care for them properly; and them being turned loose in areas where they are not native, with the potential for them becoming 'invasive species'.

Yeah, but 'invasive species' tends to be a very loose term, that can be misapplied to just about any animal that wasn't originally from the area pre-people, no longer how long they've been around now. There's a lot of new laws restricting ownership of several species of pythons and other reptiles floating around America (I want to say the Carolinas, but I'm not sure off the top of my head) that are like this, and generally fully of it.

And sometimes it's just plain weird. From what I understand, California is the only state where you can't own a ferret as a pet, unless it was 'rescued' or some such loophole (and since I know a fair number of ferret owners, it doesn't seem to be the most enforced law either. And yet it remains).

Much like Tripe has already pointed out with Ohio, hedgehogs are not illegal in Maryland, which is literally twenty minutes down the road from where I live, so....

Okay, so according to this site the answer is really kind of stupid (although I think "draconian" is a bit too much):

Quote
A very unfortunate political battle has developed within the State of Pennsylvania making hedgehogs illegal to the point where threats have been made against even the transport of hedgehogs through the state on the way to another state.

All of this is the result of an initial (and unusual) law established in the 1990's. Under that law, hedgehogs within the state were legal, but it was illegal to import fresh bloodlines into the state. A few breeders violated that law resulting in the Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC) declaring all out war on all hedgehogs within the state. Breeder's homes have been raided and their hedgehogs confiscated with all of the zeal of a major drug bust. Suffice it to say, owning a hedgehog in Pennsylvania under the draconian rule of PGC is extremely dangerous for both owner and hedgehog.

BTW we are a commonwealth, get your facts straight, hedgehog people.

Nun, you're fast.

I soon as I read that homes were raided for hedgehogs... I knew what had to be done...

EDIT: Now that I think about it... I'm not really sure if I've ever actually seen a hedgehog up close in person... so I have no idea as to their scale... So that hedgehog might be a ridiculously huge mutant... and if you are breeding ridiculously huge mutant hedgehogs, I'll help Big Brother kick in your door....

That is a pretty fucking huge hedgehog.

Used to feed a couple back in England, European ones are bigger than African ones but not usually as vast as the one the lil Cuban lad is cradling.

African with comparison objects:

I think the truth is that they don't want any released hedgehogs becoming dangerously large and stalking people [re: the 1970 'Spiny Norman' incident, in which he was wont to be anywhere from 12 feet to 800 yards].
