I daresay, from his current 'No Fear' attitude, that that is how my black cat would have been as a kitten. 
That's how our cat's mother died. She would always pick fights with the dogs that came near her house, and usually scared them off. But she got on the wrong side of a high fence with a pair of huskies.
She wasn't brave, though. She was just psychotic.
