I'm trying to slim her down. I've gotten her diet food, which she likes, thank god. But her biggest problem is that she really swelled up after she was spade, and quickly too. I try to get her out and about but she's getting old and slow so even that it hard to do.

Yeah, table-scraps are something I really need to keep an eye on. She knows when we clean out the fridge...she's getting quite a feast. Ugh,I feel like a terrible dog owner now.

Nope.  It's just like us: we know we can't eat a pound of chocolate a day, or drink a six-pack a day, or whatever.  But not everyone can regulate that for themselves (e.g. children).  Pets - since they don't have the foresight we do (and weren't in positions to GET lots of food until the last few decades of their evolution) - can't restrict their intake based on awareness of what the consequences are.  So we just have to do it for them.

Oh, and if you are cutting down food, make sure you check with your vet on the manner in which to do so.  Mine said that even cutting my cat's food by as seemingly little as 1/4 all at once could cause liver failure.  So if you cut back GRADUALLY your pet can get healthier, rather than have more difficulties to deal with (or resulting in death).

My dog's actually UNDERweight, and I give him plenty of table scraps. No idea how he pulls that off. I can only imagine he's sprinting around my room full speed while I'm gone.

the dogs go apeshit when I start peeling carrots, cos they know they get the peels.

Yeah mine love it when Ann is making carrot juice and when they hear the Brazil nut jar being opened.  If Boo is sulking somewhere, or if Jem is going crazy because somebody had the temerity to walk past the window, the sound of the Brazil nuts can totally stop either of those activities and bring them running.

He's not SUPER underweight, just 3-4lbs or so. He's just an energetic little guy, so he burns what he gets pretty fast.
