Recently finished DS9 season one. Largely forgettable, sadly, despite some great things about the setting and overall scenario.  I feel it changes with Duet and from thereon in, it's been getting pretty good (though the first part of the season 2 three part episode is a bit weaker, doing some table setting for the part of the plot that I found the least interesting).  Looking forward to diving into the "good stuff".

Though there are good episodes in seasons one and two, it's primarily when the Dominion shows up that the show gets good. You know you're getting into the good stuff when Sisko shaves his head.

Plus Avery Brooks just looks a lot better that way 8)

I'm watching ST:Discovery, and honestly, that show gets WAY better in season two. It seems to be Star Trek tradition to dick around for a season or two to figure out what works and what doesn't.

I'll pick up season 2 some time at Wal-mart or something. Being a lifelong Trekkie I'm pretty sure I'm under some sort of legal obligation to watch it one day.

Finally saw 'Necessary Evil" which is the Odo noir episode I wanted since the show's earliest days.

Lwaxana is a character I mostly don't like but I want to.  It's not that she's all horned up, it's that she can clearly read minds and that still doesn't stop her from hitting on people that ARE VERY CLEAR THAT THEY ARE NOT INTO IT.  But the actress gets to shine in the moments where that aspect of the character is put on the backburner and we get to see her humanity.  The season seven episode where we learned
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
is powerful stuff, as is her heart to heart with Odo in her first DS9 appearance (despite starting the episode creeping on someone who is 100% and defiantly ace).  She's a character so close to being actually really good.  I don't think they need to stop focusing on her being all libidinous or tone down her overbearing personality.  I just wish the writers didn't feel that meant being a sexual predator.  I mean, don't get me wrong, there are issues with a lot of Star Trek characters, like Geordi, who has some very uncool sexual politics, but Lwaxana has hers very front and center and when she is introduced in an episode, that's largely where we start with her.

Also, something else I noticed: ambassadors in Star Trek are the worst.  Like, Lwaxana and Sarek might be the best because the rest are pompous asses who keep mouthing off and lack, you know, diplomacy.  Even the one other Vulcan ambassador we meet on DS9 seems to be overly pushy for his position.

Ambassadors, admirals, basically anyone not on the ship are usually the plot device used to create the drama, so that usually means they are jerks.  :)

Random Trivia Question: What actor has been in the most episodes of Star Trek, across all series?

As the same character or as DIFFERENT characters?
