Quote
Peter Allan Fields, who wrote some of the most loved and enduring episodes of The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine, has passed away.

On Wednesday Star Trek lost one of the greats as it was reported that Peter Allan Fields, who worked on both Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, passed away. The news was first revealed by Ira Steven Behr on Twitter, who worked with Fields on DS9.
....
Some of his most notable work came on Star Trek, where he wrote of co-wrote a total of 13 episodes of the two series. He also worked as a producer on Deep Space Nine during the show’s first two seasons.

His credits on Star Trek include “Half a Life,” and “Cost of Living” for TNG as well as “Dax,” “Duet,” “Blood Oath,” “In the Pale Moonlight” and “The Dogs of War,” for DS9. Just from that list alone it would be easy to say that Fields had a hand in some of the most important moments in either series. But he also co-wrote “The Inner Light,” widely regarded as one of the greatest episodes of Star Trek ever produced.

Fields received a Hugo Award in the category Best Dramatic Presentation for his work on “The Inner Light” which he shared with Morgan Gendel and Peter Lauritson.

Holy shit! A section 31 spin-off sounds friggin' awesome!  :o What I think would be really awesome is if the show jumps around in time from episode to episode instead of being in chronological order. I know that sounds crazy but I would love for a show to do that for once because for me that would cement it as being very unique among all Star Trek shows.

And yet as much as I hate to say it Ronald D Moore did write some really good eps of TNG and DS9.

Why do you "hate to say it"?

I don't remember there ever being a time in the new BSG where the humans had a chance to wipe out the Cylons, and Moore didn't write I Borg, so that last frame is a shot at him for no reason...  I enjoyed the new BSG a lot, listened to the podcast by Moore every week, he admitted to writing himself into some corners just to do some cool stuff, and maybe they didn't do the best job writing themselves back out of those corners, but I was pretty happy with how the show wrapped up.

Oh no, it's not that it's just that he was one of the writers on Generations, which I am not the biggest fan of.

Ah, well I'm sure it would have been a better script if he had done it all by himself instead of by committee including Braga and Berman.  Those 2 may have written a few good episodes here and there but they wrote way more that was pure crap.

Also didn't help that the director was a TV director, Generations was his first theatrical movie.

But the cinematographer worked on a lot of good movies, so it kind of explains why it looks like a big theatrical movie but feels like a TV movie.
