I'm lazier than you. What is HDR, exactly? High density resolution, high def resolution? Her dirty rug?

Nice photo, Marty. Great depth.

I think the bashing started with photos that overused it to the point where it looked more like a video game rendering than a photograph. Unfortunately, like you said, it's likely being overused due to ease, and as a result, I think people are less and less discriminating between "good" and "bad" HDR and just throwing it all under the umbrella of gimmickry.

True dat.

Actually, the one you posted is a little too overt for my tastes as well. But then, I don't like "magazine" photography, where everything is technically perfect. It's kind of like "perfect" singing, you know? I don't know if anyone would appreciate my take on Awesome Pictures—which is why I haven't posted here—but it would illustrate my point... I'll be right back.

The clouds are still way from perfect in that shot, and the side of the hill isn't black enough.  That location is a real pain to photograph, when I went back in 06 I left my camera in the car and just enjoyed the scenery.

So that's a small slice of the kind of photography that I like. If you're interested, I can keep posting (periodically).

Love the Orson Wells shot.

Back to HDR for a sec, sometimes it just doesn't work, this one looks fine as a 4x6 print but is terrible larger, just couldn't get a good transition from the dark ground to the sunset:
Spoilered for size:

And a better one taken a few minutes earlier and in the other direction that is pretty much straight out of the camera:

What HDR does really well is give a sense of size.

Post away. Although you should use a spoiler tag if you put a bunch in a single post.

That Orson Welles shot is fantastic; I'd never seen that photo. I also like the first Benoit Paillé.

I took a few HDR shots of the Royal Gorge when I was there. The weather was cloudy, so they aren't as good as they could have been, but some of them turned out okay.
