I still haven't gotten around to digging out my VHS to watch the rifftrax, but as an Over The Top aficionado, if I recall, everything up to the final match was double elimination but the final match was one match, one loss.  Mano a mano.

That makes sense to me.

    Yeah, but that was if you had a double of yourself entered, like a twin brother, then he would be eliminated.  Put out the old airlock.  Given the bum's rush.  I thought that was perfectly clear.

Pretty please? The focus group didn't get it, so try to pay attention, okay? DOUBLE... as in twice. Got it? It's like when you have one bird, it's "HAWK"... but when you have two it's "HAWKS". Wait a minute... maybe that's why the focus group was confused. Um......

Youn would have thought that with as many times that they stated that it was a double elimination tournament, they would have said at least once that the final round was NOT double elimination.

But this is a movie where the main character inexplicably retains custody of his son, presumably just because he won some arm-wrestling tournament, so I suppose logic and coherence were not top priorities.
