Regarding VOD Content - Shorts and Features
« on: June 28, 2011, 01:19:14 PM »
Today we are releasing a new short, and along with it we are moving forward with new file format standards.

With Animal Homes you get the high quality Mpeg2, the mp3 source audio and riff audio - separated, and an MP4. The mp4 is now higher resolution and encoded to be compatible with iPod, iPad, iPhone, Android, etc. It is basically filling the roles that were once filled by the mp4, wmv, and DivX. The new standard is x264, High Profile at Level 3.1 (for those who require the blood work and colonoscopy before trying it out ;) ) and  with it, our goal is to offer a streaming option for VOD features and shorts...eventually.

So, we've knocked out two file formats (DivX and WMV) in favor of one that will better serve the purpose of the others, while saving space and giving us more options for the future.

And just so you guys know, I've tested the Animal Homes .mp4 file on my generation 1 iPad, as well as my Android phone (HTC Incredible) and it played perfectly - and looked awesome! - on both.
I work REALLY hard on the site. (Not the forum so much.) I'd love it if you bought me a beer via PayPal!

Hmmm. DivX was the one that I used exclusively because it would play on my DVD player.

Many DVD players also offer MP4 support or firmware updates that will make it compatible.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously, I just don't like the Mp4 format. It's been finicky on various computers of mine over the years, although not on my current one. Oh well. My life will continue nonetheless.

I just watched it on the PS3 here in the office. You should be fine.

The mp4 of "Animal Homes"  will not play on my 5th generation iPod.

Probably means it's time for me to get a non-ancient iPod.

Well, crisis averted for me. Though there is no software update for my DVD player, I have just learned that my Blu Ray player will play the MP4s.

Nice.

The new .mp4 file isn't working on my iPod (classic, 120 gb) either.  Anything I can do about that?  I've got literally every other Rifftrax short on my iPod; would like to keep the streak alive.

So long as I can still download the MPEG2 and burn to disc to eventually add to my own Volume Shorts DVDs, I'm good to go ;D
