I quite liked Wacky Races but I liked these two spin-offs more:

Well, actually >pushes up nerd glasses<, I believe it was the other way 'round. Wacky Races was the Laff-A-Lympics of its day, in that it featured a handful of already-established Hanna-Barbera characters from different cartoons, and put them in a competition setting.

And speaking of Dastardly (take THAT, Johnny Dangerously!) and Muttley: While I am no scholar of World War I, I have to wonder if the Kaiser would really have put up with Disk Dastardly's continuous string of abject failures at a job as simple as stopping a fucking pigeon.

The production schedule would say otherwise. :)

Also, and this is completely me only and not at all correct, I always imagined D&M taking place during the American Civil War. Something about the ramshackle nature of everything.  :)

I think my only encounter with the Wacky Races bunch is when some of them appeared in the Scooby Doo All Star Olympics Laff-a-Lympics. I should definitely get into the show, though, as I'm a big fan of the crazy-people-in-crazy-vehicles-doing-a-crazy-long-distance-race subgenre (I watched Cannonball Run by choice, after all).

The Kaiser was a very forgiving man........ uh-huh, now you all know about my time traveling.

Some yahoo over at Wikipedia apparently spent the better part of a day coming up with this, thereby proving that massive unemployment does have its perks:

The cumulative totals for first, second, and third place finishes, with total FIA points based on the 9-6-4 system for each contestant are presented below:

#Contestant Car1st2nd3rdPtsRank
00The Mean Machine 000011
1The Boulder Mobile 383871
2The Creepy Coupe 336694
3The Convert-A-Car 325597
4The Crimson Haybailer 343636
5The Compact Pussycat 425685
6The Army Surplus Special 3103310
7The Bulletproof Bomb 452743
8The Arkansas Chugabug 414588
9The Turbo Terrific 422569
10The Buzzwagon 364792

The Ant Hill Mob in their Bulletproof Bomb, Luke and Blubber Bear in the Arkansas Chugabug, Peter Perfect in The Turbo Terrific, and Penelope Pitstop in the Compact Pussycat, hold a joint record for the most wins, each finishing first four times, although one of Pitstop's wins was a result of Dastardly being disqualified for cheating. The record for the most second places is held by the Slag Brothers in the Boulder Mobile, with eight, whilst Rufus Ruffcut and Sawtooth in the Buzzwagon have come in second six times, and the Bulletproof Bomb five times (helping these cars also finish 1-2-3 in total FIA points). The Gruesome Twosome in the Creepy Coupe hold the record for the most third places, with six (helping to finish 4th in points).

I had no idea that the Slag Brothers were such a powerhouse team.

As a kid I managed to get the cereal boxtop promo toys of Penelope Pittstop's car and Dick Dastardly's car.  They were each about 8-10" long (and I believe were only available as a pair).  Hers was pink (of course), his was... I think purple.  [I always loved his car.]

Sadly, I do not think that they survived up in my folks' attic [either 'unbroken' or 'at all'].  We'll see when it comes time to collect all my childhood shit from there.

Anyone remember The Mighty Heroes? None of my friends or family do. For the longest time they were convinced I had made the whole thing up.

Wasn't one of them a giant infant?

I don't think he was giant, but there was one called Diaper Man.
