Well I just installed a couple antispam extensions for the forum, so hopefully it will cut down on it a lot.

As always please continue to report spam to the mods and we'll take care of it.

If anyone wants to know what extensions I've enabled for use on your own forum, send me a PM.

You should add some east coast mods to cover the time differences.

Tripe is East Coast, I believe. He usually gets to the spammers before I've even woken up :)

East Coast Mod was my favorite music style out of Norfolk and Suffolk counties in the 60's.

Fighting spammers in a forum seems like exterminating ants in a national park.

It pretty much is. Because we got a bunch of them with links to the actual forum in the posts, I think our site was listed in some spam db somewhere, hence the sudden influx. Luckily I have a few things enabled now, including a link harvester honey pot. Sort of makes my life easier.

Not to jinx it, either, but it looks like the 3 or so anti-spam modifications I installed are working! Huzzah!

I don't remember, are there any security measures for new members to weed out the humans from the spambots? Like those CAPCHA(sp?) devices or a question that only a human and/or Rifftrax fan would know the answer to? I used to belong to a music forum where they beefed up registration security by adding a question like "What is the name of this band's debut album?"

Yeah right now it's just a captcha, but those are easily beaten. I do like the more human ones that ask you to identify something from a lineup, or word problems, those are definitely deterrents. Not sure if there's something like that available for our version of the forum software, though. I looked and didn't see much but can check again - that would definitely help keep them from registering.
