'Bout the Video:
Money bad! Bush evil! Vague Nazi imagery about the G7 nations! Animation good! Blue lantern rings used without a green lantern nearby! Jets... oh, wait. That's the Distrubed cover. Hang on.

Ah. In the Genesis video, the Spitting Image folks make slightly more subtle political commentary.

Fun Musical Fact:
This video was nominated for "Best Music video" in 1987. However it lost, once again, to a Peter Gabriel song. In your face, England!

Hey, Isn't That...?
No. I'm afraid that's just a puppet.

Please let me tell you a little story.

You see, on this list I was having a tough time finalizing it, so I stuck in a joke entry as a place holder at my #4 slot, just so I could start compiling votes. I intended to swap it out as soon as that "Oh yeah. That song" moment of remembrance happened. But as I started counting votes, I noticed that about half of the lists included the song too.

See, I thought that I was just having a little private joke with myself, but apparently a number of you decided to make the same joke.  When first total showed it at #14, I was concerned. When more lists came it and it was at number 1, well, I started pounding my head on the desk.

Could I have swapped out my vote then? Yeah, probably. I did at one point. It didn't help. Eventually, I added it back in, figuring that I got myself into this mess, so I had to live with it.

However, thankfully, the final sets of votes knocked this out of the #1 slot and down to #2, and for that I am very thankful. And frankly, if I expected a joke entry to appear on the list, I was expecting it was going to be "Whip My Hair",  just because of the rules in the first post. Nope. You chose one worse. Well, about half of you did.

Everyone, here is what you voted for as your number 2 video. On the bright side, it has a Rifftrax connection.

Friday
Rebecca Black

Friday
2011

'Bout The Band:
Rebecca Black (born June 21, 1997) is an American pop singer who gained worldwide notoriety with her 2011 single "Friday". After the video went viral on YouTube and other social media sites, "Friday" was derided by many music critics and viewers, who dubbed it "the worst song ever". The music video, uploaded to YouTube, has received more than 153.9 million views (as of May 30, 2011) causing Black to gain international attention as a "viral star". The official video of "Friday" on YouTube has over 3 million dislikes as of May 30, 2011. The song was released as a single and made the Billboard Hot 100 and other charts.

'Bout the Video:
Black has a typical Friday. She goes to school, meets friends and drives around.

Fun Musical Fact:
Friday's initial round of recognition may have come from Mike Nelson, whose initial Twitter mention of the song was retweeted very extensively. Thanks Mike.

On No, I'm Not Letting You Out of Here Without Making You Pay For This
I can't embed this, but here's Black's follow up to this song. Grrrr.....

Up Next:
The number one song. Which was much better than this.

Didn't vote for this, never crossed my mind.  Wish I had thought of it though.

Had to run out for a few minutes.  Back now.

And no one clicked on the link while I was gone. Or noticed what letters each paragraph in my post started with. Sigh.

Take On Me
A-Ha

Hunting High and Low
1984
Dir- Steve Barron

'Bout The Band:
A-ha (spelled "a-ha" in lower-case on their releases) was a New Wave/Synthpop band from Norway. The band was founded in 1982 by Morten Harket (vocals),Magne Furuholmen (keyboards), and Pål Waaktaar (guitars). The group initially rose to fame during the mid 1980s and had continued global success in the 1990s and 2000s.

'Bout the Video:
A cafe patron becomes drawn into a comic. And Altered States is referenced. Plus there's a pipe wrench fight.

Fun Musical Fact:
A-Ha is a trio. However, there are four band members in the song. The drummer? Not a real person.

Another fun fact? This was in the lead until the last vote came in.

Up Next:
Your number one choice. Hmmm. What hasn't shown up yet? I bet it's Paul Stanley's "Live to Win." We'll see!

Michael Jackson's Thriller
Michael Jackson

Thriller
1984
Dir- John Landis

'Bout The Artist:
Michael Joseph Jackson (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009) was an American recording artist, dancer, singer-songwriter, musician, and philanthropist. Referred to as the King of Pop, Jackson is recognized as the most successful entertainer of all time by Guinness World Records. His contribution to music, dance, and fashion, along with a much-publicized personal life, made him a global figure in popular culture for over four decades. The seventh child of the Jackson family, he debuted on the professional music scene along with his brothers as a member of The Jackson 5, then the Jacksons in 1964, and began his solo career in 1971.

'Bout the Video:
After watching a movie, Michael Jackson and his date head home, and decide to take a shortcut by a nearby graveyard. Things go badly after that.

Fun Musical Fact:
The closing credit of "Any similarity to actual events or characters living, dead, (or undead) is purely coincidental"  was borrowed from An American Werewolf in London which, coincidentally, Landis also directed.

Hey, Isn't That...?
MJ's date in the video is Ola Ray. She was also Miss June in 1980. Just mentioning that. Also mentioning that she's a grandmom now.

Oh, and the last zombie in the video? The one that leers at the camera at 13:40? Under the makeup, that's actually Vincent Price. No joke.
