It's not exactly a vacation, but my stay in Winnipeg is nearing an end.  Now that classes are over and soon I'll be done my practicum, I'll actually have time for fun things.  Now I just need to find fun things to do in town.

Thought I'd revive this thread, because I was wondering if anyone had any vacation plans coming up!

This is a quiet summer for us, at least with regards to traveling. We have usually taken at least a couple of road trips/long weekends by now, but saving for closing costs for the house has sucked up all of our money and I have to save my vacation time for moving, etc.

We usually go to North Carolina in the summer but our trip down south is being delayed this year. My youngest daughter will be going to Savannah College of Art & Design in Georgia and has to be there in September, so we are combining our NC trip with taking her to school. Should be interesting -- none of us has ever been to Savannah, or Georgia for that matter. New state, wooo!

Savannah will likely still be quite warm (my first trip there was last year).

p.s. I have a few friends who are SCAD graduates, and I can tell you it's a diploma that can definitely help in the career department.

You have no idea how glad I am to hear you say that. I haven't been happy with her decision to get an art degree, but SCAD seems to be a great school. I also hear Savannah is a beautiful city.

It was a reference to Deliverance.

I've lived in Georgia for going on twenty years, and I can honestly say that never gets any less hilarious. It can't. Literally.

I've never been on vacation.  i've never left my state.  I dont have health insurance or even car insurance right now.  Last year I was homeless. Have you ever stayed in a homeless shelter?  Its pure hell.  First you get your TB test and a urinalysis.  Then they bus you from the pickup spot to the church du'jour.  On the way to the church you pick up tricks of the trade including good bushes to sleep under and the best places to shoplift.  When you get there they give you food that sucks certified ass.  You will get accosted by a jesus freak who will grab your hand and not let you go and proseltyze right in your face.  The bathroom reeks of you know what and instead of showers they douse themselves with cheap cologne that gives you a headache.  Then you watch a G rated movie and talk with the other homeless people who turn out to not really have hearts of gold.  They are angry mentally diseased criminals.  Then you get a super thin pillow and a super thin foam pad and you lay out on a hard church floor with angry noisy smelly homeless all around you.   I think they bus in like the top 5 world champion snorers for the evening.  You never really sleep.  They wake you up at 5 am  and you start to break everything down while a big angry mexican guy sings the most hateful version of Hakuna Matada you've ever heard.  Then they bus you back to the pickup spot.  Vacation.  Yeah right.  Not in America pal.  My profession?  Math teacher.  I am in full support of class warfare.

I've been on vacation to Vegas 8 times.  I've always leave my worries behind.  Since I have health insurance and car insurance, I don't need to worry.  Last year I stayed at Caesars Palace.  Have you ever stayed at Caesar's Palace?  Its pure heaven.  First you get your room keys and a free cocktail.  Then they take you from the front desk to your room.  On the way to your room, you pick up some tips from the bellman about good shows to see and the best places to shop.  When you get there they give you food that is delicious.  You will get greeted by a concierge who will grab your hand and not let you go until you every need is satisfied.  The bathroom reeks of you know what (Italian marble!) and instead of showers they have elaborate tubs with cool little bars of soap that gives you a moment of joy .  Then you can see an R rated show (tastefully done, of course) and talk with the other guests who turn out to have hearts of gold.  They are normal folks just like you, looking to spend their hard earned cash and have some fun.  Then you get back to the room, you find a super soft pillow and a super thin mint laid out for you.  As you lay out on your pillow top mattress with the aroma of fresh flowers in your room. There is a limo waiting downtown if you want to see those casinos for the evening.  You never really sleep.  You wake you up at 9 am and you start all over again while a sweet Mexican lady sings while waiting to service your room.  This is truly the best service you've ever seen.  Finally the limo takes you back to the airport.  Vacation.  Nothing else like it.  This is my America, "pal"!  My profession?  I work for a living and don't cry about it.  I am in full support of you shutting up.

In reality, a lot of it is.  Plus a lot of the good shows are overpriced and it is expensive to stay at the very nice places (never really stayed at Caesars, can't afford it.)  If you don't know how to enjoy yourself there on your budget, it can be a shitty trip.

My point was that the asshole troll comes into a nice little thread about what folks are planning to do for vacation time and throws himself a pity party which is probably 100% make believe anyway.  Pissed me off a bit (which is the point of a troll, so job well done I guess.)

Sorry if my comeback to him offended anyone out there actually struggling in this economy.  I know it is tough these days.

I mostly agree with that, though Ann and I have talked of doing a Sad Vegas tour, you know, visiting the hasbeen hotspots and the like. might be funny for a couple of days.

I never go just to go to Vegas anymore, now it is always because of something happening there.  Last month it was a UFC.  Before it was to see certain shows or concerts that were playing there.  It has changed a ton over the last 10 years that I have been going.  And not really for the better in my opinion.
