World War Z / Zombie Survival Guide fans?
« on: February 09, 2007, 06:43:48 AM »
Is anyone here a fan of the Max Brooks book series?

Has anyone here listened to the audio book of World War Z?  The voice acting (by the stable of Brooks regulars) was just top notch.

I haven't read the full book but I got an abridged version of 'The Zombie Survival Guide' a few months back. Great stuff.

Apparently JMS (the writer of Babylon 5) is currently adapting WWZ for the movies.

Finished up World War Z this weekend actually. It was nice to see a zombie book that doesn't end in a Total Cast Kill.

Enjoyable read, but some zombie fans may feel that the zombies get kind of glossed over in the book. They're more of a background plot device rather than an in-your face type of horror. Still works for me though.

In the middle of World War Z right now. Zombie Survival Guide was a Cristmas present a few years back but I gave it a good read. I feel I'm prepared to survive a zombie invasion now because of it. If it'll ever happen. I wish it would. I need a change of pace.

I really like World War Z! It adequately satisfied my unnatural zombie fixation.
I'm on the waiting list at my library for The Zombie Survivial Guide.

Oddly enough, I'm in the middle of World War Z as well! It's excellent, though I think I might've preferred a story, rather than a "documented" account.

I actually wrote up disaster preparedness for the eventuality of zombie attack for my work.

I still haven't landed a copy of WWZ,  I only have bad luck to blame.

I actually think it'd make a kick-ass series.  Though with the wholesale slaughter of the human race, it might have to be an HBO thing.

Fun fact: Max Brooks is the son of Mel Brooks and Anne Bancroft. He was also the voice of Paul Dini lookalike Howard Groot on Batman Beyond. I'm a wealth of information.

I'm looking forward to reading WWZ. I was considering the audiobook - though I usually detest them - as it's done in radio play style, but I don't like to see the word "abridged" on a book I actually want to read.

This is going to sound wierd, but has anyone noticed subtle anti-west feelings between the lines in Zombie Survival Guide? I'll get my copy out and find examples if you think I'm crazy, seriously. By the time I was done with the book I was convinced Brooks had something against western civilization.

HE'S A COMMIE!

I found the Survival Guide annoyingly US-centric myself, halfway through 'World War Z' and LOVING every page.

I finished World War Z a few days ago. I couldn't get enough of it. I think Mr.Brooks really needs to write more on this. Maybe for a regular series or somesuch.
