The Walking Thread! (May contain spoilers)
« on: November 01, 2010, 07:40:57 PM »
In case it wasn't obvious, this is the Walking Dead thread.  Frankly, I usually don't follow series as they come out (the last time I did that, it was Heroes... and that didn't end well), but I was a big fan of the comic, and despite not considering myself naive, I got caught up in the hype.  I was really happy with the pilot, which followed the comic, but also elaborated in ways I liked a lot.  It also had a fantastic climax much more tense than in the comic.  I'm looking forward to the next episode and am looking forward to the series deviating from the comic.

Also, if they do have the Governor, who would be a good actor to play him?

I'm a big fan of the comic and was worried about being dissapointed by the show but I LOVED the pilot. Can't wait to see more.

As for the governor, I've always thought he looked like Danny Trejo, so that would be my choice.

I was thinking that but I also thought the Governor was actually relatively young and less weathered looking (at least until... well...)

Never read the comic and have NO idea how it ends or what not.

I am amazed how 15 mintues into the pilot they already had likeable characters that you cared about and 2 hours of Cloverfield you did not give a shit about anyone.

Very pleased and wanting more.

Yup. Finally watched the pilot. Never read the comic. Loved the show though. Well written and you actually like the characters.

Count me in for watching it.

I have read the comic and I enjoyed the pilot.  It seemed pretty faithful so far (though I'm not sure the thing about the black dude's wife was in there) but the conclusion to the pilot made me hope that the TV version won't be quite so bleak.  Andrew Lincoln is surprisingly effective in the role - I've only ever seen him in light British comedies, but he works well.

I thought it was fabulous. A perfect balance between what was actually in the comic versus the new stuff to pad up the story and characters a bit (and some stuff that could very well have happened in the comic but was either edited out or happened off panel or between books). I find myself having a hard time waiting until the next episode.

Anyone jonesing to enter the contest for the "stagger on role" as a zombie? Winning something like that would be a dream come true for me.

Never read the comic and have NO idea how it ends or what not.

That's the beauty of the comic: It DOESN'T END.

In fact, that's kind of the premise: most zombie movies end with nothing resolved except for character deaths, so creator Robert Kirkman wanted to have one that doesn't end.  He doesn't have an ending planned out, and will probably be going for a long time more.

I love that there will be new characters and subplots.  After all, the pilot covers two issues of the comic, but if you were to adapt those two issues scene for scene, it would maybe be a little over 40 minutes (or less).  I especially like that the black father and son have to deal with the fact that their zombie mother is still out there.  The scene were

I also thought that the zombie attack in the climax of the episode is very tense and effective.

According to the website it's also going to be on Nov 5 (10PM), Nov 6 (2AM) & Nov 7 (2AM).  I'm assuming these are all EST.

AMC always shows their Original Series a few times during the week before the next episode....starting with a replay following the debut of an episode.
