Celebrity Deathmatch: RiffTrax Edition...
« on: February 04, 2007, 10:33:40 PM »
I had the idea to resurrect a 'game' that I ran over on another mesage board.  I just thought it polite to run this by torgosPizza beforehand, out of respect for what he and the rest of the mods have done here for these forums... That being said, Let's go!

I present to you.... CELEBRITY DEATHMATCH: RiffTrax EDITION!!!

The rules are actually fairly simple...

Official Rules for "Celebrity Deathmatch:  RiffTrax Edition"

1.) All Characters will start off with 300 points.

2.) All members are allowed to vote once and only once per update.  The voting consists of 2 modes, normal, and healing.

3.) 'Normal Mode' takes place from AFTER the FIRST update on Monday until after the LAST update on FRIDAY**

4.) Between updates, during 'Normal Mode' any member may vote to 'hurt' any character for -10 points damage and 'heal' any other character for +10 points...

5.) 3-4 times a day the votes wil be tabulated and the character's scores adjusted.

6.) All updates will be done by me, or an approved representative of my choosing.*

7.) During 'Healing Mode' a member may only vote to heal a character for up to but not more than 5 points. Characters take no damage during 'Healing Mode'....

8.) 'Healing Mode' takes place from AFTER the Last Update (Usually @ Midnignt) on FRIDAY until AFTER the Last Update on SUNDAY(Usually @ Midnignt)**

9.) A character is 'killed' when their points reach 0 (or lower)

10.) A 'dead' character can be 'revived' during 'Healing Mode', If enough points are accumulated.  This can only be done during 'Healing Mode'.  Until then all 'dead' characters will remain 'dead' until the next 'Healing Mode'.
,
11.)The contest is of the 'last man standing' variety.  It continues until all but one character remains.

12.) Only one vote between official updates by yours truly. Duplicate votes by any member will be ignored.

13.) Any and all disputes are reveiwed by yours truly, and all decisions are final...

*The number of updates may increase or decrease in accordance to what my scedule is IRL...
**Eastern Standard Time

Also, as with the last game I ran similiarly on another board. Back then, when a character 'dies' it was common practice to give a narrative explaining how/when/where/and by whom the points were given out, often referred to as a 'deathblow'.  While it is not required,  it is highly encouraged. I reserve the right to introduce my own narrative during each update for those who do not. I tend to add gobs of insult to any injury/demise and make it as excruciating as possible...

Here's a like to the previous incarnation of this game to help you get the feel of it...

This is tough.  I like almost all those characters.  And you can heal and hurt once per round, right?  Or is it one or the other?

Oh, and I have a suggestion.

There's a handy dandy poll feature on this forum.  Instead of 'make new topic'  you can click on make a poll.  You could make a gigantic poll where you list each character's name twice and label one hurt, and one heal.  That way you don't have to tally up the score, and it will be easier to see how people are doing.  The polls can be customized to allow users to vote a maximum of two times.  It's something to consider.  I think it would make for less work on your part in the end.

Ok, I just tested it out.  There are two problems.  You could potentially hurt two people or heal two people per round.  Also, when you switch to healing mode, you can't change the poll back to 1 vote per person, so people would heal twice.  And therefore I conclude that if you want to keep the rules the same, which i'm guessing you do because they've been tested, then polls won't work.  feel free to ignore everything i just said.

I hope that helps...

You still have the option to 'heal' a character for +100 points, Herr Platypus...

[sarcasm]Oh really? Then no wonder I kept losing...[/sarcasm]

In its' previous existence, I had over 100 different charaters battling it out.  That was a bit TOO ambitious for my own good.  It lasted about 7 1/2 months, even with my doing updates 4-6 times a day or more.  Even so it DID rack up an impressive tally of over 6000 replys and well over 96,000 views.  Having said that, I think for the time being I'm gonna have to put the training wheels back on, as it were.   What I mean is, I'm making a couple of on the spot adjustments to the game.  For starters, I'm going to move everything over one decimal point.  Next time (if there is one) I may bump the levels back up...

Oh and before I forget +10 Mike

I hate to do this to you sarcasm, you've been the most faithful of them all and really gave it a chance.  The thing of it is, I guess I miscalcuated the demographics that make up these forums.  Maybe this isn't something that does well here.  I mean it's been two days and a grand total of what, 5, 6 votes? Like I said before, on the other board, I was up dating 4-6 times a day!  Then again the average age of the members there wer about half of what they are here.  I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm gonna have torgo pull the plug on this turkey of a thread...

Don't waste a good turkey.  Pop it in the oven and we can all eat it at the annual Rifftrax feast.

I think there's just too much love in this forum.  Doesn't seem right to hurt the others, because even the characters we hate were played by the actors we love.
