I'm still bummed about Belwas. Also: the GOT Reddit seems to think he was black; did you guys get that impression?
Nope, I did not. I assumed that Strong Belwas was more middle easternish with a tinge of white (but maybe that's because I automatically assume white unless proven otherwise). I'm kind of disappointed that he's being ditched, too, but that's because he is, as Ortega pointed out, a relatively humorous character.
Also, Vargo Hoat the lisping mercenary will be in the show, but his name is changed to Locke. I dunno why. I didn't appreciate the name change from Asha to Yara, either. I think I remember reading that they did away with his lisp.
Yeah, I kind of pictured Belwas as a middle-eastern Djinni type. The big fat belly and little vest seem to point in that direction to me.
Re: Vargo Hoat...the whole series has made everyone better looking and more presentable than they are in the novels. I'm not surprised they're taking away something like a lisp because it would be seen as "comical" or "unappealing." Even Tickler wasn't horrific-looking.
I thought the Asha/Yara thing was because we already had Osha, and people apparently get confused at words that are slightly different than ones they hear all the time, and would just throw up their hands and flip over to Desperate Housewives or something, so they couldn't have something as "close" as Asha and Osha.
I still hope Belwas shows up somewhere else.
