The Dark Tower Series

(1/3) > >>

mrbakasan:
I want to start this off by saying that I could not make it past the fifth book in the Dark Tower series.  I really enjoyed the first three books (up until Blaine the train, which I thought was pretty dumb).  The fourth book I could have lived without, but it was readable.

Has anyone read all 7 books?  I got someone to tell me how the series ended, which sounded irritating to and I was glad I didn't finish the series.  I feel like I should say that Stephen King is an author I immensely enjoy and I've read most of his works.  So for anyone who really enjoyed the latter part of the Dark Tower series, I am a big supporter of Stephen King, I just didn't get it.

I also hear there is a comic series of the Dark Tower coming out in Feburay.

IronPigeon:
The first three/four books were magnificent. Then I read the new ones. They're the Star Wars prequels of literature.  Stay away if you know what's good for you!

Fuzzy Necromancer:
I actually couldn't get through the first one. It was just too gritty and bleak. Also, either stephen king's work is too incoherent, or I'm too stupid to work it out, but a lot of it didn't make sense. Why did the gunslinger aim his gun at the fat preacher woman and then say "there is no child"? Why did everybody in the entire town come out and try to kill him? What was more or less up with everything?

The first book isn't so great as a stand-alone, the second and third ones at least make the first one more interesting.  Its has been a very long time since I read it, but I honestly don't remember why people in the town are acting like that.  I'll be the first to admit there were parts of the story I'd get lost in, but I'd usually just assume it would eventually get explained.

SaucyRossy:
Personally I loved the first book...I was ten years old when I found it in my local library and started reading it. Talk about a new reading experience!
