If there is anyone whose Lovecraft I would both anticipate and dread, it's Guillermo del Toro.

On the one hand, the awesome.

On the other, the nightmares....

THIS is the one project I really hope he directs next. Give us epic Lovecraft!

I'm so excited for this, I'll even pay to watch it in 3D (that's big for me).

Yeah, Guillermo is one of the few directors that would use 3D really well. The other is Joe Dante. Why the hell hasn't The Hole been released yet?!

Looks like a lot of Prometheus will have similarities to At the Mountains of Madness. To the point where Del Toro has decided for the time being to not persue it.

Considering this could be considered spoilers for Prometheus, I will put the reasons in spoiler tag:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Really dissapointed to see the effectively dead in the water. I am looking forward to Prometheus, but a big budget atmospheric monster filled Del Toro proper H.P. Lovecraft movie would have been something for the ages.

So I'm not sure how credible this is, but if it's any bit true...
http://nukethefridge.com/2013/06/12/ntf-exclusive-guillermo-del-toro-casting-news-for-mountains-of-madness/

He has expressed pitching the concept once again back in January, so it could be he's either still looking or he has found someone interested and will not start until he is ready.

It's all really dependent on if Pacific Rim breaks out. If it does, he'll have more pull to get projects like this made.

While Del Toro hasn't ruled it out, I doubt it will happen any time soon, if at all.

Haven't heard any rumblings for ages. Like I said in another thread, if Tom Cruise, James Cameron and GDT couldn't get the movie off the ground, I'm pretty sure it's dead as a doornail.

Del Toro also mentioned that apparently Prometheus had so many similarities that he didn't want to seem like he was copying that. Which is too bad, because Prometheus was retarded, and whatever similar scenes or themes it had I am sure Guillermo would do much much better.
