Well I never really thought about it but i guess I would define a Library as a place that keeps books for members of the public to read.  I don't think my book shelves are a library because people are not free to just come in and read them.

That looks interesting.

OK so the first public library, because Libraries started as private things.

If you don't count official archives (places where edicts and the like were kept). I'd say probably around the end of the 5th century BC but that's really just an estimate, things like that tend to be fairly vague. :)

That is why i asked,i figured it would spark some interesting posts and links to some interesting facts.

Can I just point out that there is nothing silly about the apple peeling/slicing device I mentioned?  I can't?

Screw you, I'm pointing it out anyway.

When you eat an apple, you have to peel the toxic skin off first.  This is much easier than using an apple peeler or a toe knife.

I have one of those apple peelers. It is a thing of beauty but, as someone pointed out already, a bitch to clean.

Apple skin isn't toxic.

Yea, I've never taken the skin off an apple before eating one...

They probably should have said before you bake with an apple you have to take the skin off, but mostly more for texture reasons than taste.  But I think the time saved peeling and coring with that device is killed by the time needed to clean it, but if you were making a lot of pies it would be time saver.

On a side note, I love how that needless apple peeler is the "back to basics" apple peeler. I think just eating an apple is the basics.

Four people missed the apple skin joke.  I guess there aren't a lot of fans of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia here.

I've watched a few episodes, keep meaning to watch more but keep forgetting about it, I guess I didn't see the one(s) that apply here.
