I wish I had an awesome idea for a cash cow. :(

Why?  Stephanie Meyer didn't have one.  You can have a crap idea, just razzle dazzle it.

I can't go into Wal mart right now with out Twilight blaring at me on every tv.  Also if you think it is wrong anf that everyone should be forced to like Twilight maybe i am not the person you should be coming after.  Maybe you should have a word with Mike.  I am a small fry compared to him.  Have you read half the threads in this section, you have bigger fish to fry then me.

...coming after? I'm not coming after anyone.  I'm merely being reasonable about the whole thing.

That was your mistake, the "OMG TWILIGHT IS TEH WORST EVA" crowd on here has reached torches and pitchforks levels my friend.  I've dared to mention that perhaps a cultural phenomenon that makes it's target audience very happy might not be the end of the world a few times and apparently that just means I'm a big closet fan  :D

The irrational hyperbole runs just as deep on the anti-Twilight side as it does the pro-Twilight crowd they look down their noses at it seems.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
that got leaked onto the internet will then be finished and turned into another movie. Stephenie Meyer will milk this for everything its worth.

Holy crap.  That's getting into Piers Anthony (the biggest sellout author in the history of western civ.) territory there.

An update to the story:

Quote
The story will be released June 5th as a hard copy book but it will also be available, for free, from www.breetanner.com.

Released for free? That doesn't sound like very effective milking to me.

Which, against my better judgement, I finished reading just this week.  :gouge:  Though Meyer avoided it (it was a strain on her, I could tell), my brain was automatically plugging in all the "OMG!!!"s, "like"s and "totally"s where appropriate throughout the text. Including them actually would have added some depth to the story. My brain also automatically plugged in a valley girl voice for narrative, despite it being from Edward's POV (which is perhaps not entirely inappropriate).

Back on topic, I have absolute faith in tween/teen girl attention spans in that they are very intense while engaged, but fizzle out rapidly within a few years. The Twilight obsession will simmer down in the same way all media obsessions do. Pattinson and/or Lautner getting hitched (not to each other, although one must wonder....) to some fellow celebrity will speed up the process when all the unrealistic teenage girl dreams are crushed,  all the posters are torn off the walls after a crying temper tantrum and 5 hour rant on the phone with friends. By the time they get divorced, all the girls will then be too old and/or too busy caring for their kids to care. Oh, Meyer will try to keep fanning the flames for a few years and may even try writing different genre, but the interest will dwindle down to the obsessed few who actually show up for her underpopulated panels at Comic Con. We just have to wait it out and it'll be over eventually.

I hope this happens before some moron in some production studio somewhere suggests a Twilight TV series.  :P

Don't fool yourself. You know the legions of Twihards will shell out money just to have a hard copy of this novella.

Is it weird to hear the Safety Dance in my head watching Game of Thrones?

That still doesn't change the fact that they can get it for free, legally.

I'm struggling to understand where people's contempt for the series and its fans come from.  It's perfectly okay to not like the movie - I sure didn't - or the books, but to have this kind of eye-rolling snideness for the people who do like it, I find it odd.  Let the fans have the things they like: Trekkers have their stuff, Star Wars fans have theirs, hell... some of us have MSt3k or Rifftrax merchandise.  Disregarding the perceived quality of any of those franchises, can't we recognize their own passion for something in ourselves?

And Trekers and Star wars fans are mocked all the time and in general reguarded as losers.  Also look at the number of threads on this forum devoted to pointing out plot holes and bad acting in Star trek and Star wars.  Even the fans of those franchises ripp into those movies.  Take a look at the Doctor Who thread,no one is harder on that show then the fans.  Why should twilight and Twilight fans not be treated the same as other fans.  You show me any where in the world where trekers are not mocked and you will have a point.  Look all i am saying is that Twilight fans are not treated any worse then any other group of fans,in fact it could be said that they are treated better because it is assumed that they will grow out of being loser.  if you are a Treker you are a loser for the rest of your life.

But that's irrelevant here.  I'm specifically talking to those who seem to sneer at fans of Twilight, even though they themselves are passionate about something that's derided by the "mainstream".    For example, Doc: You're a huge fan of Doctor Who.  I've never been a fan, but because I understand that passion for something "nerdy", I don't look down on you for liking something I don't.

Also, Twilight is very new compared to Star Trek, Star Wars, ect.. All the harsh ribbing that could be had has been had over the years. How many times can we make fun of Kirk and his frequent shirtlessness in TOS when there's a vast cornucopia of fresh jokes that can be made about Jacob and his in New Moon? How many times are we going to gag at Jar Jar when we can be gagging at Bella? This sort of thing is one of the pinnacle traits of our type of fandom. There is much bloodletting, (fill in blank) vs (fill in blank) heated debates and no one gets out unscathed if you're part of the fandom. Hell, we even harshly poke fun at our own interests with equal fervor to everyone else's if we're in the right company.

The point of it all? Everything we like is ridiculous and we know it. We like it anyway and we all help each other out by giving ourselves and everyone else thick skins and not taking things so seriously (most healthy, sane fans, I might add. Not the psycho ones). Does anyone think Mike and crew would even be doing Rifftrax if, at the end of the day, they didn't actually love bad movies? It's the same difference.

I'll also add that this kind of criticism against Twilight is good for its young fans as, generally, this may be their first venture into this type of fandom. Weed out the weak, keep the strong, and make the strong stronger for the real world where they might be getting criticism over something a lot more important and hurtful than reading vampire fiction. They'll need to know how to handle it properly. Having someone tell me how stupid Optimus Prime is might have prepared me for the all the times my boss yells at me on a weekly basis, and for this, I'm forever grateful.

I think that's a very positive spin on fans vs fans, but I can see where you're coming from.  And for the record: Mike has stated more than once that he doesn't actually like bad movies, though I know people like Frank did.

I just find it funny that anyone would come onto the rifftrax forum and be upset that the section devoted to a riffed movie was not full of posts about how good the movie was.  I mean it's not like this is a site or a section for fans.  Rifftrax is all about poking holes and making fun of stuff, not saying how great it is or how there is nothing wrong with it and Rifftrax has taken many more shots at Star Trek and Star Wars then it has at Twilight.  If this section upsets you so much maybe you should just stay away from it because it's a fair bet no one is going to be saying anything good about Twilight in this section.  Just saying is all.
