Hard one to rate, thought it was average for the first half, but from the moment they hit endor on I thought it was great.

So, first half 6, second half 10, averages to an 8.

    • Yep, I have a deviantART gallery. But it's pretty cheerful drawings-- no angsty poems or black-and-white photos of wooden chairs.

This was like the other Star Wars ones: they all had moments of sheer brilliance, but for some reason didn't bring me an even supply of laughter. Maybe it's because I've seen the movies too many times. I can pretty much watch a Star Wars movie almost through instinct and reflex-- I don't need to pay a hell of a lot of attention to follow this movie well because I'm so familiar with it.

And then when the Rifftrax comes out, I have to pay very close attention, but the movie quickly makes me bored, and I start to drift a bit. And if you don't pay close attention of a Rifftrax, you miss out on a lot.

Now that I think of it, especially with the prequel riffs, the more I really dug in my heels and paid attention, the funnier it became.
I used to have an image here, but Photobucket got cheap about remote linking. I guess I'll have to think of something witty instead. Which I will. Later. It caught me by surprise, in all honesty. It's hard to be clever on command, I mean, YOU try it. Be funny: NOW! See, tough. So, gimme a bit, 'kay?

I was kind of bored through 80% of it. I still think riffs work better for utterly terrible, and largely unseen movies. I feel there is a more genuine writing output if they're truly aghast at the film, rather than stuggling to say things about Return of the Jedi that no one has said before. Even Brando couldn't pretend to be surprised by something that happens in this film. Jedi isn't so much stupid and terrible as it is dull. And that's like riffing a comedy, where all you can say is, "that sure wasn't funny," or, "that sure was boring."

It seems to me that the less inspired they are, the more they draw from the old bag of tricks. I don't really see the point of doing Carrie Fisher drug jokes or making Firewall references. If you expect a joke, then there's no surprise, and surprise is what makes humor work. And everybody expects a Firewall joke. Now, if you compared Ford's mugging to Ron Weasley, maybe people wouldn't expect that, since it's sort of ironic in its anachronicity. But when they do 35 jokes about R2's flame throwers or his ability to fly, I can virtually smell them pandering to the fanboys who want them to say that.

Now, when they do Clone Wars, and they damn well better do Clone Wars, I think it will probably be much funnier, since that is supposedly a truly terrible film that really is shockingly awful, and hasn't been memorized by anyone. It won't be out of obligation so much as the fact that a movie so horrible could actually exist. Trying to lambast the original trilogy is really a stretch. Even riffing the prequels is far more fanboyish than genuine (virtually every bad summer blockbuster is worse than the Star Wars prequels, without so much as a potential for interest). But the Clone Wars? Come on. They not only referenced it several times in this riff, but they even mentioned it in the intro as the fourth time fans were proven wrong about how much Jedi sucked.

This riff was severely lacking in laugh-out-loud moments. Some chuckles here and there, but that's it. It got a bit better towards the end, but it was still very disappointing.

Same here.  I still gave it a 9 though.

Some of the stuff early on was just.....terrible.  I don't know why it seemed that way.  But by mid-movie I was definitely into it and laughing my ass off.

Well, I've noticed this trend before: if you riff a really boring movie, the movie can actually drag the riff down with it. At least it can for me.

They've been able to overcome it with The Star Wars Holiday Special and The Room. I mean, those were both boring, but you had a morbid fascination with its badness and had to keep going to see just how much worse it got. Not really a so-bad-it's-good, because nothing about those movies was good (The Room even ruined SEX, my penis retreated upward into my abdominal cavity and I had to watch a LOT of girl-girl porn to coax the poor fella out of hiding). It was so bad that it was more like RESEARCH to keep watching it. And in the case of watching them riffed, your patience was rewarded.

Also, pot helps.

A lot.

I went off on a tangent there. My apologies.

I like this one much more than their ANH , and I think it's better than their ESB by a little as well.  I gave it a 9.

The only movie so boring I've never been able to finish the riff of was Glitter.  Boy was that painful.

I'd have to say 8. Not nearly as just plain funny as ANH, or as well written as ESB, both of which I gave 10's. I was quite disappoted on first viewing, but I liked it better the second time.

Also, I'm apparently the only one who liked the stuff with Jabba the best. Salacious Crumb FTW!

I give it a 9! Not quite as good as A New Hope but much better than Empire.

Really great!

It's so funny how our opinions are so all over the place, be it Rifftrax, MSt or any comedy related endeavor.   The whole 'comedy is subjective' thing, I guess.  I enjoyed the trax very much.  However, I found it better than A New Hope but not quite as good as Empire.  Never understood why Empire didn't get more love.  I've watched it three times now and loved it every time.  New Hope was fun but a lot less laughs than both the others.

Didn't get a lot of laugh out loud riffs from this one... and I found a lot of riffs that were true groaners. Carrie Fisher drug jokes, C3P0 is gay, why doesn't R2D2 fly and hey... a few Colt 45s for Billy Dee! The writing just wasn't as inspired as their better stuff. Although I suppose that there isn't much new territory to mine after doing just about everything in the Star Wars universe. As a result, RotJ didn't often rise above pleasant chuckling while seeming forced and obligatory in many places. I gave it a six.
