So because you made a wrong assumption the movie doesn't work?

That's like blaming the passenger in a taxi when the taxi gets lost.  I was just the passenger in this movie, the Director was the taxi driver.

Maybe the problem was with you and not the director?

Maybe, but I doubt it.  I like Sam Rami and usually like his work so I gave him more than a fair chance with this one.  He jacked up the tone with this one and it reached the breaking point with the car fight.

I guess you shouldn't have got in the taxi huh!

Interpreting a movie relies on more than just the direction.

I think in a lot of cases you're right about that, Edward.  But this is Sam Fucking Rami here.  You gotta believe that the buck stops with him.  I can't imagine there's any aspect of the movie he didn't have total control over.  No, what we saw on the screen was exactly what he wanted.  And it worked for him and it sounds like it worked for some of you guys and that's fine.  No art is going to hit every single person the same.  But for me, personally, it just didn't work.

And the interesting thing for me is that this is the rare movie in which I was able to identify the exact moment the movie lost me.  Usually I can't and I'm just all like "eh, didn't like it.  Don't know why."  But in this case I can pinpoint the precise moment of fail.  LOL  But it's fine.  It's not a big deal, I just thought I'd remark on the moment it lost me since I knew it for once.

I can't say I've seen anyone else say they made the same assumption that you did, which is why I'm inclined to think this one's on you.

Anyway, I'm sorry you didn't like it.

I thought it was great, and I'm far from alone.

Personally I think it's an excellent, fun movie that maybe just wasn't your cup of tea.

Interpreting a movie relies on more than just the direction.

Stop blaming the viewers for disliking your favorite movie, fanboy.

It didn't even make my top ten.

Stop blaming a movie that you clearly didn't get.

I hated the movie for the reasons others here mentioned. After I saw the girl drop the button, I stopped watching the movie and googled a spoiler because I knew right then there was no reason to waste my time. Whatever she did wouldn't work, so why watch?

I hate the argument how I "didn't get" the movie, or that lots of folks liked it, so it must be good. Transformers has more fans than this movie will ever have, and those movies are among the worst I've ever seen. I don't see popularity as an indication of quality.

Critics aren't gods either. We all have seen movies that critics adored that were pure crap. A movie stands on it's own, and this one was fairly crappy.

Our positions on this movie are established and probably not going to change, but let me just clarify one tiny point here because I don't think I really communicated what I actually meant in my first post.  It's not that I think the movie sucks because I assumed that scene was a dream, it's that the scene was so bizarre and so out of touch with reality that it would have only worked if it had been a dream.  Which is why I assumed it was a dream.

Let's not even get into why she'd trying to suck the protag's chin.  I've been in a lot of fights and never felt the urge to suck chin.  So, for one thing, women that old break their hips bending over to pick up a dropped spoon and this old bitch is going toe to toe with somebody 50 years younger than her for 5-10 minutes.  That's not just bullshit, that's straight up boolsheet.  I mean, yeah, we see more boolsheet in 1 minute of a James Bond movie and yeah I usually dig that.

I guess the best way I can put it is I prefer my movie unreality to be "ig-nant" rather than retarded.  Action scenes in James Bond movies are ig-nant and the fight in this movie was retarded.  But each to their own.

Why doesn't that surprise me?

Stop blaming the viewers and treating a movie as if its quality is a matter of objective fact, asshole.

If you want to like this trainwreck of a movie, fine, but quit acting like "Drag Me to Hell is a good movie" is a statement on par with "water is wet" or "fire is hot".

That's what it was.

And seriously people, a movie debate degenerating into personal insults? I thought we were a better forum than that.

I don't know what gave you that idea.

And Grug started it.

But I'm gonna stop it.
