face it berman killed the idea of going further into the future.  if they had announced another spin most people would have said 'Great like we need another crappy Star trek spin off" But you do this and people say "Wow kirk and Spock are back I am going to give this a shot."  Sorry i would love to see a post Dominain war series as much as the next fan but from what i can tell talking to people fans like us are the only one who wanted to see that.

If they said that one supernova was going to cause a chain reaction of other supernovas, that would be one thing, but they didn't.  I listened for just that.  I remember Spock saying that A star exploded and talking about the single supernova.  Didn't ruin the movie for me, but it was something that bugged me.

I learned that futuristic starships have concrete walls and ceiling with exposed industrial girders as well as they stash language labs next to large tanks with valves on them.   Also, they have huge complex un-staffed areas for water turbines with clear pipes and no security in their control computers.

Ok about the Supernova but i am not sure why people keep going on about the tanks and water.  it seems to me something as powerful as a warp drive would take a lot of water or something like water to keep it cool.

The water isn't for cooling the warp drive. It's for cooling Pavel's gaming PC.

I think the water pipes and turbine served the same purpose as those piston things in Galaxy Quest.

I'm not sure about that.  I think that people who didn't have an attachment to Star Trek at all would have accepted any timeline and any set of characters.  There's nothing special about Kirk, Spock, etc.,

But that's just a hunch.  We'd need market research to be sure.

Some of those sets reminded me of "Space Mutiny."

After seeing fan reaction to this movie i learned that Star Trek fans are the angriest people on the planet.  Even when the franchise becomes populare again they find a reason to get mad.
Cause these so called new 'directors' keep going BASS-ACKWARDS with the franchise!!
There's just ssooo much that could take the franchise FORWARD Into The Future! :grr:

The 2200s are not the future?

::) I'm talkin bout a 1960's franchise evolving into a 1980's-90's franchise, then 'de-evolving' into a short lived 'Enterprise' series, and de-evolving Further into this movie >:(

gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood, let the hate flow through you

YES. I thought of that the first time I saw this in the theater. I don't think they did a riff about that, though.

I don't remember a direct comparison between the two movies, but there was at least one similar riff where they mention the Enterprise has a big basement.  Can't remember the exact wording.

Same, in discussions I often call JJ's Enterprise "The Southern Sun."
