Leave it to Michael Bay to put the whole Twilight thing in perspective.

I just think it's nice that these two movies are basically polar opposites. Yet this community, for the most part, hates them both, to the point that we earnestly wonder which one we hate more.
Just points out that there's a vast number of ways to suck.

You can film a movie competently and yet if the story and characters are based on all kinds of different unhealthy and prehistoric ideas about love and relationships it can still suck.

Or you can use every state of the art trick in the book and if you do it ham-handed based on a really shitty script....and same thing.
How telling is it that I had to think really hard about which description fit with which movie?

You just need to remember how terrible the effects in Twilight were, and that that movie isn't anywhere near the words State of the Art. Or the word Art, come to think of it.

Ah.  I misread that part.  I read it as though every trick in the book were so cliched that it transcended cliche into "state of the art" tricks.  Uh, if ya follow me here.  Sorry but this is what sleep deprivation does to my brain.

The audience for Twilight is eventually going to grow up and hate those movies. As for Transformers, well whether you like it or not they will always have an audience that enjoys them. Hell, even my parents enjoyed Revenge of the fallen. Teenage girls will get over Robert Pattinson and squeal for the next teen heartthrob. Since Twilight will no doubt age worse than Transformers, I think it is definitely a lot worse. Transformers will always have some nostalgic value, whereas Twilight will always only appeal to one very limited age group and gender.

To me, that's like arguing for the continuing production of firecrackers because there will always be a group of people who will enjoy shoving them up the butts of frogs to blow them up....

In the case of Transformers the problem is more that these things are being put out like they're "A" films when the scripts and acting are just above the quality of The Asylum....but they have megabuck effects and promotion budgets.

And then, other studios won't release good films against them lest they get killed at the box office so that people who use movies as their "night out" go to these things because it's the only thing new available....

How do you figure?  I know some full grown adults who are heavy Twilight fans.  It's an ageless fandom.

True. And how many of the women who loved Titanic when it first came out still like it? Probably most of them.

I suppose a good thing to consider is the relative stupidity/suckitude of the franchise as sequels come out.

Transformers: Could've been cooler, but I didn't hate it.  I'd give it a 3 out of 5 stars.
Transformers 2: Seriously pissed me off.  I was expecting it to be bad, but it was beyond what I expected.  If I hadn't seen it with Rifftrax I hate to think what my reaction would've been.  (I really enjoyed the riffs, but HATED the movie)

Twilight: Pretty bad.  Again, only saw this one with Rifftrax like TF2, but the movie was worse than TF1 IMO.
Twilight 2: I can't weigh in on this one since I don't plan on seeing it until it's riffed.  But I assume it's going to be much worse than the first one.

I have only seen the trailers but Twilight 2 looks much worse.  I mean the Werewolf effect looks much worse then the one that was done in Doctor Who three years ago.  Think about that the effects in a major motion picture look worse then three year old TV effects.

Agreed.  But I think that TF probably had a steeper decline into the crapper after the first one.

And how about dudes who still love Star Wars?

For what it's worth, I thought Twilight was a better movie than Transformers.

Having sat through all four films....that's a tough call as to which sequel was worse than it's original.

Whatever you feel about the Twilight series, the first film had some art to it.  The second is a whole lot of nothing, really.

With Revenge of the Fallen it's like "they liked crap last time so we'll crap three times as big this time!!".   But, on the other hand, it has that fight in the forest....short as it was.

The robots, unlike the vampires had personality(what little there arguably was of it), and "personality goes a long away".

Except that the "personalities" were either cartoonish, "Snidley Whiplash" melodramatic or borderline racist.   Not much original there.

Exactly right, but that's still more than Bella and Edward.
